FCPX 10.0.1 crashes continuously. .MOV-problem?

Hi,

I've been crawling the internet for a few days now, since I'm totally frustrated by the new v10.0.1 update of FCPX.

The app worked great in V10.0.0, but after the update it went crazy. Updating events crashed continuously, and now I've ignored that, FCPX crashes every time I import files I've used on projects I could use wit V10.0.0.

My best guess after days of searching and analyzing, is that FCPX cannot handle the .MOV files I've created using a video converter, such as Wondershare (worked fine in v10.0.0 and FCE4).
I use the conversion because my JVC GZ-HD7 creates .TOD (mpeg2) files, which cannot be read by editors.

Does anybody experience the same sort of trouble? And does anybody know a workaround??

Replies are greatly appreciated!

you are not alone with the .mov crashes; XDCAM EX material I have converted to .mov via XDCAM Transfer works fine. But other .mov files I imported into 10.0.0 do not import into 10.0.1: they hang at the Validating files stage.

Frustrating, since the problematic-for-10.0.1 .mov files open with no problem in Quicktime.

I tried re-installing FCPX 10.0.1 and even installed Lion onto my mac - still the same .mov problem.

Otherwise, so far stable...

I'd also love to know of a solution, short of having to re-transcode the troublesome .mov files.

Good to know I'm not alone!
I've been checking out some new options, and for now it seems that when I convert my original .TOD files tot .MOV's with MPEG Streamclip ( www.squared5.com ) that Final Cut Pro X miraculously imports them without any sign of trouble. So I'm going to reconvert all the files.
Not the best way to go, but since I've lost three editing days in a project, I'm glad I just have a solution for now!

Any other tips still welcome!

Any one try downloading and installing the QT codec update posted when FCP X.0.1 was released?
support.apple.com/kb/DL1396

Also wondering why you're not using FCP X to convert to ProRes on import?

Just wondering.

@BenB: have tried installing the updated QT codec, but FCPX still refuses to import some /mov files.
I can only think that the manner in which the .mov files were originally created makes them unreadable by FCPX (though not by QT, which opens and plays them just fine).

for reference, the QT data is:

source: /Users/PaulAir/Desktop/kenzo_01_1.mov
format: h264, 720 x 480
AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
FPS: 25
data size: 512.2 MB
data rate: 6.12 Mbit/s

I'm not converting to ProRes because I am using FCPX to simply 'index' the files on the original drive. This worked fine in 10.0.0 but not in 10.0.1
