Hi everyone,

So I decided to give a look at FCPX 10.0.5. In this decision i have been meeting quite a bit of unexpected problems.

I have a t2i that I shoot a lot of 60p in. To get the slowmotion i would just conform the clip to a regular 23.98 timeline. Then I would just reverse the clip as well. This worked perfectly in 10.0.4, however in the latest version im geting stuttered/lost frames in playback. What gives? I also have just installed lock and load's steadicam plugin if that helps.

Some of my other questions is how do I duplicate a event to another hard drive without having to copy all the referenced media over to the hard drive via fcpx? Currently I drag the specified event from the "events folder" on my imac to the external drive using the finder.

Finally I am planning to invest in a pegasus raid. I want to know if its beneficial to get a ssd for my imac as a scratch disk? Would this speed up my latency of viewing clips in fcpx or rendering faster?

Thanks for your time.

Kris

i just did a quick test of a 720p60 prores clip. i put in a 23.98fps timeline, conformed it and then reversed it. playback was smooth. no dropped frames at all.

is your footage optimized? if not, you may wanna try that.

If you're on T'bolt you won't need anything else. There is not "scratch disk" in FCP X, so an SSD drive for that is not an issue.

I use 7D clips and am not having issues. What OS are you on? Be sure your Events and Projects are not on your system drive. Keep them on a secondary media drive. Any T'bolt drive will handle Events and Projects just fine. You won't get faster.

No sure what you're asking about duplicating Events. An Event is the referenced media. Not sure how you would duplicate something without duplicating it?

There is an issue with copying Events and Projects via the Finder. Each one is a unique database (same Final Cut Server database engine, which is not native in Mountain Lion). Each db has a unique ID assigned to it by FCP X. Copying via Finder causes FCP X to find multiple db files with the same ID, and only the first one found will mount. Copying inside of FCP X allows those db files to be assigned unique IDs so there's no conflicts.
