How can I separate the new AVCHD files in Mountain Lion for use in FCPX?

Hopefully the answer is easy for you guys. I shot two events on my Sony HXR-NX5U on the same day in AVCHD format. When I get home I immediately back up my memory sticks to external hard drives. While I do this I also organize the events in to folders ready for editing. In this case the STREAM consists of two different events, that I must separate. What I used to do is copy everything along with the entire file structure to their assigned backup files. In this case lets say I have 500 clips in the STREAM file and 1-250 is event A and 251-500 is event B. How can I separate these files out for strict backup purposes now that OSX recognizes the AVCHD files as that new single file browser type...?
All the best,
