Hopefully this is just a temporary tip and the relevant tools will be added to FCPX at some time.
When working with colour matching, add a title to the timeline, open the face controls and hit the colour swatch to open the OSX colour pallet.
Delete the title.
Open the colour wheel in the colour pallet and use the magnifying glass to sample colours in the viewer.
The samples can be saved in the normal way by dragging the colour from the bar beside the magnifier to the grid at the bottom, this allows you to make comparisons and looking at the differences on the wheel lets you see what adjustments are needed.
