New in town... was created by Mr Quattro
Hello all
Just thought I'd introduce myself - go easy on me, I'm a newbie to editing, never mind FCP! I run a high tech marketing communications company in Cambridge, England - servicing a number of clients in the wonderful world of wireless technology. I've traditionally bought in creative services - especially video production. But recently elected to get more involved in the process. So I'm now on the steep learning curve!
I have a question (more about production than post) that I'd like some input on from you good people. Where's a good place to post that kind of thing?
Thanks and I look forward to learning lots here!
Cheers
Al

Welcome aboard, Al. You could probably post your question in Forum / Off Topic.
It's not specifically about FCPX but definitely related.
I too worked for many years in the industry, usually bringing in shooters & cutters, but thanks to Apple & the emerging technologies with cameras, computers, software, etc, you can now have greater creative control, instead of surrendering it to people who often care more about the paycheck than the project. Or at least don't quite share the depth of passion you do for the project's vision.

Thanks for the reply TT9K!
Yes I remember my first foray into production and post 12 years ago - paying GBP60K for a 14 minute product that could definitely be done with a GBP1K camera and FCP on a Mac today. My business partner & I routinely make relatively cheap and cheerful two minute productions now (though he takes care of the post - using Premier) for around GBP5K.
I'm looking forward (with some apprehension) to cutting together my first project!

Be sure to do some proper training in FCP X first. You'll save yourself lots of time in the long run.
www.macProVideo.com
has some of the the most extensive training. Very fast and easy to learn and use.
You'll find lots of help here for pretty much anything you need.

Ben knows his stuff.
Tutorials are a real door opener.
As your knowledge & experience increases in these programs, the more your creative repertoire expands exponentially.

Hmmm - I should be shopping for Motion 5 now? It's not the absurdly low entry fee - it's the prospect of adding to my learning curve.
I do have a need for some animation in my work and on my list of things to do is learning Cheetah 3D. I suspect it will take longer than FCP to get to a useful level of competence with this application. I want to be able to create simple animated sequences of objects - nothing too world changing - let's say no more complex than seeing a cellular handset rotating about an axis - perhaps some animation of a wireless signal being transmitted from it.
In Motion is it possible to take still photographs of an object and render a 3D model out of it which can then be manipulated in free space and imported into FCP? I appreciate of course that a model cannot 'know' what details are to be included on a surface unless they are created.
So you genuinely feel that Motion is easy to learn - the same order of difficulty as FCP? That would put it into some sort of context for me. Perhaps I'll buy it and experiment rather than ask.
Thanks for the suggestion

Motion 5 is not a 3D modeling application. I highly, very strongly recommend Blender for that. Free, powerful, amazing support community, easy to learn and use.
