Available on the App Store - some people seem to have been able to access it already. Plus there are also updates for Motion and Compressor.

Early reports say that XML import from FCP7 doesn't work - probably to be expected but not a great sign :(

If you're using FCP X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4, the first round of updates are here, and they look pretty sweet.

www.apple.com/finalcutpro/software-update.html

The biggest news is MSE!
Media Stems Export:
"Traditional, track-based editing systems require you to constantly rearrange and disable tracks to export audio and video stems. With the latest version of Final Cut Pro X, flexible metadata removes the burden of track management. Use the new Roles tag to label clips — dialogue, effects, music, and more — then export a single multitrack file or separate stems based on your tags. You can even apply Roles to video clips and graphics for a powerful new way to deliver separate files for versioning and localization."

* FCP X now has a camera import SDK so camera manufacturers can make their own Import plugins, just like in the old v.7 Log & Transfer.
* FCP X now has XML, so look for some very exciting new plugins that will actually extend FCP's functionality.
* FCP X now has XSAN support for Events and Projects.
* Custom Time Code that can accommodate bars & code for broadcast.
* Transitions for Connected Clips.
* Full-Screen app in Lion.
* GPU-accelerated Export.
* Coming in early 2012: Multicam Editing & Broadcast-Quality Video Monitoring.

Motion 5 now has dual monitor support;
And important bug fixes in Motion 5 and Compressor 4, too!

There is so much that FCP X does, and does in such a different way, if you were able to bring your stuff from 7 to X, you'd have to rearrange and redo so much of your original work, it wouldn't be worth the time.

But, with XML, I bet Automatic Duck has something out soon. And that is the LEAST of anyone's issue with X.

It is very well-documented that this was a MAJOR (if not THE MAJOR) deal-breaker for many, many users and was the reason that so many were doubly incensed at the removal from sale of FCS on the day of release (subsequently reinstated). You know, just saying ... not that I was one of them.

Really, it was well documented? Where? I was unaware anyone factually documented that stuff, outside of Apple.

For me the deal breaker is lack of support for Canon XF series.

Given that any converter will have to deal with the various reasons people add video to higher layers, Apple are leaving the support to third-parties.

In practice the rules for preparing a timeline for Color will probably apply to how much to simplify your FCS3 sequence before exporting as an XML file that an Classic to X XML converter will be able to import.

Such converters will give you messages such as "The Final Cut Pro 7 XML file you have chosen has XX incompatibilities with Final Cut Pro X XML: 1. More than 2 video layers..." etc.

Documentation for the new XML format .

New keyboard shortcuts to assign clip roles:

Apply the Dialogue role to the selected clip Option-Control-D

Apply the Effects role to the selected clip Option-Control-E

Apply the Music role to the selected clip Option-Control-M

Apply the Titles role to the selected clip Option-Control-T

Apply the Video role to the selected clip Option-Control-V

More on roles:
help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.1/he...dex.html#verb71cbb80

Note that although there are five roles with keyboard shortcuts, you can create as many roles as you like.

How to choose which roles to export. See 'Export your project’s roles as media stems' at
help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.1/he...ndex.html#verdbd6a7b

This means you can export just the titles clips, or just the 'clips to be colour corrected'

Exports are much faster. As a Apple Certified Trainer, I have the Audio project for doing demos with. It's 3 minutes, and pretty complex. It exported in just under 30 seconds on my Quad Mac Pro.

I think Roles are fantastic. Takes a bit to get used to the highlight and collapse/expand functions in the Timeline List, but once you figure it out, it's pretty cool. Exporting by Roles is super simple, and achieves a very complex process. Way easier than in 7.

Full-screen in Lion is so wicked cool! Real estate!

Ok, I'm not a Pro and I do nada with video to feed me or mine.
I _play_ with FCPX as it amuses me, and the output from it impresses those I show it to.

Rev.0 was driving me up the wall as it crashed so much. (running on) MBP15" 500gb SSD 8 GB ram and the "fast" chippery . . crashed like a MoFo doing pretty much anything on FCPX rev.0
(crashed in the apple sense, hung, lots)

rev.01 :woohoo: having learned on the crashtastic rev.0 and trying stuff on rev.01.
I'm extatic ! it's outrageously easy to use, and fast, and appears stable.

very very happy bunny indeed.
