FCP X Quality was created by aapro
Hi guys i really need some help with the quality of my videos when it comes to burning them onto disc. I have shared the projects into my apple devices for mac and pc. Once i have burnt them onto a disc and watch on my tv, the quality just looks blurry for example if its a pan shot of someone walking.

Any help or shouldn't i be sharing it into my apple devices?

Since nobody has responded, I'll be the first to step in here, though some real experts are sure to follow. From my limited experience on the technical side, you may be experiencing a deinterlacing problem. Because you note the picture quality loss during movement. What you term as "blurry" could be jagged edges on objects? Or it could also be a rolling shutter issue with the panning.

However, I'm sure the tech wizards here will need a ton of specs, what you shot at, what you imported at, what you output at.

Get ready, cause they're gonna ask...

What codec is the original footage and specs?
Are you using the Share menu to burn?
Burning to SD or Blu Ray DVD?

in a nut shell i have made a video for charity and shot it from a normal HD camera (sony HXR MC-2000). From the first shot of the video its a pan across the village i live in and the quality just looks crap. Is it because i have shared it for a mac or pc screen and need to go about another way of sharing it? I am now burning straight from FCP X onto disc so this version may be different.

I've edited in 1080iHD, the disc i made this morning with all 3 vids on looks grab on my pc, its just when i put into my dvd player a play on my tv screen. Not sure if the screen size makes any difference to. Lastly could it be the dvd disc itself? amount go GB etc.....

When you share to "Apple Devices", "Mac & PC" you compress really heavily to a long GOP Mpeg4 codec then when you burn to disc you re-compress that Long GOP Mpeg4 to Long GOP Mpeg2, it's asking for trouble.

Either export as ProRes 422 and let your DVD Authoring app transcode (if it supports it anyway), or Export using "Share", "Export Using Compressor Settings", "Disc Burning", "Mpeg2 for DVD" to miss out the Mpeg4 step that is messing it up for you.

NocoDave as think you can gather I'm not up to date with all this tech stuff lol, I've spent almost 6 months of solid graft making this to raise money for charity. What is the best and easiest solution, as i need to but all 3 videos i have made onto a dvd which has to have menu titles etc

I don't know "DVD Creator" if it will transcode a ProRes file for you that's the easiest way to go, try exporting from FCPX:

"Share", "Export Movie" with "Export" set to "Apple ProRes 422" and "Include" set to "Video & Audio".

Take that into "DVD Creator" and do what you normally do to create your menu's, if it doesn't support it you'll find out straight away.

If it doesn't, export from FCPX (assuming you have Compressor installed):

"Share", "Export Using Compressor Settings" and browse to the "Disc Burning" folder and chose "MPEG-2 for DVD" and take that into "DVD Creator.

Try the first method first:

"Share", "Export Movie" with "Export" set to "Apple ProRes 422" and "Include" set to "Video & Audio".

Take that into "DVD Creator" and do what you normally do to create your menu's, if it doesn't support it you'll find out straight away.

If that works you don't need anything else.

If it doesn't then you'll need "Compressor", which is available on the App Store.

I think your on the wrong track, .mov is just the container which can house a number of codecs and variants.

Did you try the first method method I suggested?

".mov" is a QuickTime movie, and can be one of many different codecs in the library.

Export as ProRes 422 as Noco says, take that into your DVD authoring app directly.

The 422 export is better quality than the MPEG-4 export you got when you shared to "Apple Devices", "Mac & PC"?

If so you have a problem.

444 is higher quality than 422, but you shouldn't need it as 422 is most likely better than what you camera recorded. I.e. 444 would be overkill.

ProRes 4444 will not do you any good, and will only make huge files.
ProRes 422 will keep the best quality possible from your original.
