I had FCPX make a Blu-ray disc and with that it makes the .264 and .ac3 file in the share folder. i use those to put in Encore to make my DVD.
Im trying to find out what the default settings are that FCPX uses to convert my timeline to the Blu-Ray disc. and can i change it.?
i know i can use Compressor but i had some issues and am experimenting.
the problem is when there is a flash from a camera my video shoes lines in it and i think its also showing up in the light flash transition i used.
using 1920x1080 avchd covered to prorez.
also i have the pref set up to optimize my files. doesn't that automatically convert them all? right now i though i was using optimized clips but their showing up as the original h.264 file in the info section and if i click on a clip i can still select transcode media.
am i missing something ?

Sorry I can’t help you with the Blu-Ray encoding, I haven’t used it. I did get curious and looked in the help centre, which I'm sure you found out doesn't say much. But something gave a wee clue.

Important:  Choosing “Dual-layer” when using a single-layer disc may result in an error while burning the disc, depending on the project’s length.

It looks like FCPX may do an auto transcode choosing bit-rates depending on the video duration and disc capacity, this is what Encore does if set to do so. If this is the case it’ll be that the max settings supported by Blu-Ray will be used if the result will fit on the chosen media, lower settings if not.

Have you considered exporting a ProRes file to take in to Encore and letting it do an auto transcode? I always found it encoded really well when I was working with DNxHD.

If you have the preferences set to optimize on import, or if you chose to optimize on import it should do. But if you imported then set that preference it wont, you need then to transcode it in the event.

To check for sure, right click on a clip in the event and select, “Reveal in Finder”. This will show the source to either be in the “Original Media” or the “Transcoded Media” folder.
