C300 Import Tool - Clip Names

C300 Import Tool - Clip Names was created by smg669
Just getting started here with FCPX. We are shooting on a C300. In the Canon XF Utility (and in the camera) the clips all have a unique clip name (like "AA1632"). However, when I import the clips into Events, this information seems to be ignored. The clip is automatically named in FCPX as the date and time the shot was taken. Is this everyone's experience? Is there a way to easily rename the clips or change the method used to name them in FPCX? We use the XF Utility to preview clips, so it would useful if the clip names displayed there were somehow ported over to FCPX.

You can rename imported clips in the Inspector. Under the Info tab on the right bottom corner is a menu, where you can edit the clip names.

You can rename them directly in the Event Browser, list mode, too.
Yes, that's a PITA thing FCP does with DSLR files. Fill out the feedback page and complain. It's stupid.

If you want to batch rename use the Inspector. Lots of presets there, like use "Original name from camera" etc.

Batch renaming is available in both the Inspector and directly in the Event Browser (select multiple files, Modify > Apply Custom Name). More than one way to skin a cat in FCP.

I find the batch rename a little bit of a pain. What's great though is you can select multiple clips and just rename them all in the inspector.mthen I use a batch tool to add numbers. This way you never have have to edit the parameters.

Thanks, all. Problem solved.
"Modify -> Apply Custom Name -> Original Name From Camera" is the correct solution for this issue. Still a minor pain in the whatever - ideally they should have a preference in the import dialog to choose this - but not a major deal in the scheme of things.
