Filters in Motion but not in FCPX

After completing a tutorial on Motion from Ripple Training, I started to play and browse in Motion and noticed a lot of filters not available in FCPX. Deinterlace, unsharp mask, color balance, gamma, levels and many more. Color control tools in FCPX are very limited in my opinion and I would find a lot of these useful. (As a side note, I hope Apple brings a lot more color tools back, either in FCPX or Color X, including controls found in still image apps so we don't have to learn Davinci Resolve or the like) I tried publishing a few (unsharp mask and gamma) and they seem to work. Have not tried publishing levels, but it seems you can't publish the graphical interface, instead you can publish sliders (25 all together). I wonder why Apple chose not to include direct access in FCPX to these filters?

Look in the free plugins and templates forum here, there are many freebies where folks have put these together into very useful and creative effects, already.

If you ask for Color X, then you might as well start learning Resolve. I doubt there'd be much of a difference.

agreed... Resolve LITE is free and pretty powerful. In this business you're always learning new apps, so, that's just business. But I sure would kill to see a Color X. At least it would run on OpenGL GPUs and not require CUDA.

I think Apple associates some effects with tasks that editors aren't that comfortable with. They leave them in Motion and produce effect templates that use the base effects in Motion to get specific results in Final Cut Pro. For example, many of the Looks effects are a combination of Color Balance and Keyer (to protect skin tones) that produce the kind of quick effects that editors can use until a professional colourist can sort things out.

I've been republishing many of the Motion only effects, sometimes adding some useful features. Here's a list:

Blurs

Gradient Blur
Circle Blur
Soft Focus
Compound Blur
Defocus
Channel Blur
Unsharp Mask

Colour effects

Brightness
Channel Mixer
Color Balance
Color Reduce
Contrast
Gamma
Gradient Colorize
Levels
OpenEXR Tone Map
YIQ Adjust
YUV Adjust

Distort

Black Hole
Bulge
Circular Zigzag
Twirl

Bad TV

- more controls than the Final Cut Pro X version

Aged Film

- Added more controls and 'Bad TV'-style rolling

Ripple Training has also published some Motion-related effects and generators for Final Cut Pro X.
