back up files was created by courtfreeland
recently after working on am important school film, i accidentally deleted a part of the film, and before i could undo this, my final cut started to lag, and froze. the only thing i could do to is to force quit it, which meant that final cut autosaved the part deleted film. i have tried looking at the backups it makes, but it is all the new version. it is a series of clips with lots of editing, so it its not easy to redo.
is there any other way to undo/restore the project? or get any older versions of the project?

Here's what I'd do.
Delete the second half of the split clip.
Highlight the first half of that clip.
Shift-F will reveal that original in the Event Browser.
Select the original range in the Browser, or close to it.
Option-R then does a Replace From Start edit.
Trim as needed.
For future stability, make sure to turn off background rendering in the preferences. And keep your Projects and Events on a secondary drive.

I imagine you already know this but in each project folder there is a Backups folder (yeah it called backups but it should be called backup) with a timestamp. Is this the backup you where referring to?

You could also try the version in the Old Versions folder.
