Hey folks,
thanks for all your advice with my export freeze problem and then with tips on moving around in the Viewer. You are a very generous and professional community. I shall be covering all this in my next Australian Macworld blog
Now, another one for you. In the doco I'm working on some of the location footage has only one good audio channel - (apparently volcanic dust in Iceland may have had something to do with it.)
Stuff shot before that has two strong stereo channels.
What's the best way to compensate for the missing channel so that the dodgy footage sounds the same as the good stuff?

Select the clip in the Event Browser, go to the Inspector, to the Audio tab, down towards the bottom, configure the audio channels to be dual mono, and disable (un-check) the one not used.
You can't make a single mono channel into stereo. And creating two channels from it and panning them left and right doesn't do anything, but raise the possibility of phase problems that make the original audio sound more flat.
If it's recorded in mono, leave it in mono. Just make sure, as outlined above, it's panned centered, which is what configuring dual mono should do. If not, make it dual mono, mute the unused channel, pan the used channel to center.
