Add Keywords from the Clips in the Timeline???

i did an edit with a lot of voice overs and when looking in the event library it gets pretty messy. haven clip names like voice over 1 is basically useless. especially if you record multiple takes and delete the bad ones from the timeline.

the only workaround is for a single clip...

select the clip and press "shfit + f" and then add the keyword.

this works okay for a few clips but having 50 or more it's just a real pain.

is there a better way or is it currently not possible?

I know I am stating the obvious, but have you tried to rename the clips? That is what I do as soon as I record something into the timeline. You can rename multiple clips at the same time in the inspector.

And of course you can rename clips in the event browser also.

See if this thread over at the Cow is of any help:

I do tons of VO work almost daily. I simply rename them as I'm recording them in the Event Browser. You can also create Smart Collections based on media type, and text in the Comment field that you add.

I've also added a custom audio Role called Voice Over so I can create a Smart Collection for all clips with that Role.

first off: thanks guys :)

as much as i like your suggestions, it doesn't take away the problem that you cannot add a keyword way after you have recorded a vo.
it's a big DOH! that any changed name in the timeline do not update in the event browser.

anyway, i try to apply your suggestions for future recordings :)

Shift-F will reveal the clip's original in the Browser, where you can pop a keyword to it if you'd like. Pretty quick, pretty easy.

i already said this in the first post. this will help to add a keyword to this clip. but do that on a big number of clips. it takes forever. also renaming them wont update the name in the timeline.

No, the Timeline is a different copy, legacy didn't change the Sequence copy either. Changing the name of the master clip and the timeline copy basically changing independent clips. I doubt that will ever be changed. But fill our the feedback page, who knows?

If you have a lot in an Event, go to that Event, search for "Take" or "Voice" or whatever FCP calls them, select all of the ones you need all at once, add the keyword. Poof, a bunch done at one time.

There is a workaround for this problem.

I have a lot of clips in a single timeline, and i want to keyword all but, as you've mentioned, we can't do the "shift+f" for all.

So, i created a smart collection, and filter that for Used Media. From here was a very easy, just open the project of the timeline you want, and all the clips will appear on the used media collection, than you just "cmnd+a" "cmnd+k" and it's done!

I think this "method" can help a lot.
