1 frame audio crossfade

1 frame audio crossfade was created by parkerhqj
In FCP7, I often threw a 1 frame audio fade or cross fade (which I saved as a favorite) if I had a pop of any kind at the head of a clip. It usually worked. I can't seem to figure out how to do this in X. Any suggestions? thx

The easiest way is to just pull the audio level handle in 1 frame.
If you want to add a transition go with 2 frames and it will be much easier. Remember the only way to add transitions to audio is if they are in a storyline. Also if you highlight an audio clip and hit add transition it automatically does this process as well as top and tailing the clip with fades. Then click on the transition. Hit Control D and type "2".

Thanks. That works. I guess the only way to add an actual crossfade is to detach the audio, no? Otherwise, you get the video as well. It also seems to add a transition at the end of the clip when you go with add dissolve. Is there any way to disable that so it only happens where you want it? Maybe I'm missing something.

You need to click on the edit not the clip.
In all honesty 1 frame transition is hardly a cross fade. It's much easier to double click the clip to reveal the audio and the just drag the level handle across a frame or two.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just trying to find the quickest way to do things. This seems very workable. Thanks.

Are you hearing a pop now? Trim it out of the clip rather than fade it?

I'm not sure pop is even the right word. I find when I edit some clips, certain ambient sounds can make the clip come in a little abruptly and it sounds almost like a mini pop. Trimming it doesn't always address the issue. I mostly added the 1 frame fade or cross fade to take care of that. It's a pretty subtle adjustment and adjusting 1 or 2 frames with the audio fade handle works fine. I just found it easier in 7 where I could just throw my crossfade between clips and be done with it and not have to guess which clip has the issue. It's no big deal either way.

Yes, room tone, got it. Fill out the feedback page and tell them what you're doing and how being able to chose "favorite" transitions yourself would help, and a keyboard shortcut for an audio only transition, too.

Will do. I'm surprised those options aren't built-in. They seem kind of obvious. thx
