Soundtrack Question was created by TrixTrax9000
For background music, I often use the Apple Loops from iLife, in particular the Jingles category. However, since I've used them quite extensively & don't want to bore my viewers with repeats, anyone know of any other royalty free Jingles like those? Preferably also free.
I've installed the FCPX additional content, but I don't see any new music.
Is Apple Soundtrack still in existence? Did it have music loops, or completed soundtracks, that could be tweaked, rather than just instruments? I wonder if I could get a hold of those old loops.... or ...
Anyone?
thanks

There are tons of places that sell canned music. Be very careful, many of them are garbage. One I like is "Royalty Free Music" (.com).
STP did come with a nice library that included good quality music beds, but I stay away from them now, they're all so overused everyone recognizes them.
You can check Amazon.com for Garageband "Jam Packs". There's 3 sets, and they have some stuff in them. But unless you're using Garageband or Logic Pro, it's not worth it as most of it are loops and virtual instruments.

Jam Packs also don't automatically show up in the FCPX browser, so you'll have to manually move any song files you want...
Soundtrack is still a current product, and if you know how to compose music you can create your own pretty easy with loops. May or may not be worth the time as opposed to just buying yourself a few good libraries ready to go.
I have created about 30 loop compositions in Soundtrack Pro for video projects, and while they serve the particular purpose pretty well, the time it took me to create them and tweak, re-tweak the mix down in some cases was significant.

Thanks for your input...
Another Soundtrack Question
Spent the day going thru a lot of loops from various suppliers. Amazing how dark & creepy most of them are. But I do really like the stuff from Dosch Audio.
Anyway, I've got some great synths in GarageBand & would love to be able to look at my video playing in FCPX while I synth my own score. It appears that the two screens won't appear at the same time or one over the other on the MacBookPro, perhaps I need a second screen. Or I was thinking, when I finish with my edit, to export a little mp4 file, use that to play while I record a score I can import back for the final copy in FCPX.
But I'm thinking, if memory serves me, Garage band won't allow me to have a video playing while I play synths.... any ideas?
thanks

Ah, scoring, if you really want to get in to scoring your own music (super time consuming), you'll want to go with Logic Pro, which supports QT video. Just export your video from an FCP X timeline (use Media Stems to control what audio does and doesn't go out with it), then open that in Logic, go to town. Plus Logic comes with a bunch of it's own really great loops, amazing virtual instruments, and really powerful built in synths. Superior Drummer 2 is a must have if you're THAT serious, too.
And with updates from AATranslator and Xto7 will have a nice workflow between the two.
Garageband ain't gonna do it.

Good advice, Ben. Thanks
That 8 gigs of ram is looking more & more vital...
But then again, all this projected development, really needs the new retina Macbook with 16 gigs ram...
hmm...
