Why would I have lost 8 hours work in FCPX

Hi all
Firstly, this is my first venture into editing of any sort except for a home movie 6 years ago in iMovie. FCPX is a joy to work with..... BUT..... I recently crashed and on re-booting discovered the project was missing all my recent work, what I was looking at was the job I was working on 8 hours previously. The manual says it saves as you go - so where is it?
Have I really lost that work or does it save a different file somewhere.
I am Utterly dissheartened and need to find the time and strength to re do 8 hours.
Why on earth can't I save as I go, very confused.

(I did a search but couldn't find anything to help)

Have you tried doing a spotlight search for the filename?

Yes, there are some serious stability bugs in FCP X, and an update to fix these can't come soon enough. When these bugs are fixed, it will be a very awesome NLE.

In the mean time, here is info on versioning your edits which can safe guard them.
