FCPX Playback Question was created by TrixTrax9000
While working in the timeline, & checking playback, I want the timeline window to scroll with the playhead staying center screen. I haven't been able to find a way to do this, so now the timeline stays in one place, & the playhead disappears off to the right & I can't observe where it is in relation to the clips, until I hit the spacebar to pause, then the timeline jumps to the playhead.
How do I make the timeline follow the playhead?
I've tried searching in all the manuals using terms "scrolling, playhead & follow." Nothing.
thank you

You can't. You have to scroll the timeline manually.

Thank you for your prompt response.
What a disappointment that FCPX doesn't have this feature.
Even little 10 meg audio programs on Mac have this method of viewing scrolling waveforms.
How much more important with video...

Actually I'd rather have an option to choose either. Both have their advantages. That would be ideal.
But as is, when I'm editing VO work, and I manually scroll during playback, FCP X can't update the waveforms properly if at all. Someone needs to do some serious work on that in that dev team.

I don't necessarily need to see waveforms in FCPX, per say. I only used that example as that's what the audio programs depict. They also have a choice, as you say, you can turn this scrolling on or off.
For FCPX, waveforms aren't important for me during playback, I'm more interested in just seeing in real time, where I am in the timeline.
Quite surprised this feature isn't part of the otherwise great design.
How do we send "feedback?"
