3 Post Moderation Rule for New Boarders (25 Jan 2021)
New boarders will have their posts moderated - Don't worry if you cannot see your post immediately.
Why don't my posts/replies show up directly?
Also, the captcha is a pain. Why have it? I've had it time out during the time I needed for typing my reply. I lost my text when I submitted my reply.
I figure you're fighting spam. But it can't be that bad. This isn't a public forum. You do have to create an account to be able to post. Just make the account approval process a bit more thorough. And have some more moderators around the world to remove spam/accounts that get through.

New accounts on the forum are set to have their first three posts moderated and after that new posts should appear right away. BTW, I am not a topical moderator (I am only working on the running machinery of the site) so if you have other posts awaiting moderation someone else will be handling them. I am fairly new around here and don't want to interrupt any workflow I am not fully aware of yet.
Your suggestion about not requiring reCaptcha for posting, since one must be logged in to post anyway, is a good one and I've changed that setting.
We are actually in the process of making some changes to the forum design and usability and hope to have them published soon.
Tim

just to add my 5¢, being one of the janitors here:
on a 'good day' I had to delete +40 posts offering fake passports, viagra, home make overs ....
aside the lost souls posting plain nonsense (a post of 100s of 'a'), in wrong categories, etc etc etc.

Yes, I know moderating can be a pain. I've been a moderator for a pretty large forum in the past. It's a divide and conquer thing. So having more moderators divides up the work and makes it easier for everyone.Karsten Schlüter wrote: just to add my 5¢, being one of the janitors here:

I wasn't aware of the fact that my first three posts would have to be approved. I found it very confusing. Maybe I overlooked some warning message? Anyway, it seems my posts are now immediately showing up, which is great.cybersalt wrote: New accounts on the forum are set to have their first three posts moderated and after that new posts should appear right away. Great that you've changed the reCaptcha thing!
I guess the whole point I was trying to make is that anti-spam measures shouldn't impact normal forum use too much. Having the reCaptcha for every message was overkill, IMHO. Just guard the entrance (new accounts) and the spam issue should be manageable. Of course this doesn't 100% kill all spam. People's accounts get stolen/hacked, spam-bots getting smarter, etc. Forum moderation is still a necessity.
