Wow...why would they bring out new models without Thunderbolt?
Mystified.

There are no "new" Mac Pros in the Apple store. Nothing was mention about iMacs, that doesn't mean they're dropping them. Just not releasing updates today.
Besides, I'd rather go with a good MBP than a tower these days. I'm selling off my tower, and not looking back.

If I were in the market for a new mac, I'd buy up the remaining supply of refurbished 17" Macbook Pros. You get a deal and will still get good performance for 3 years.

I have and FSI monitor, so all I'd need is an AJA T-Tap and T'bolt RAID. Selling off my MP tower with an LHi card in it, and my 17" MBP would make the upgrade very bearable. Plus all the extra drives I can sell off.
One computer, studio and travel, no more syncing app and plugins, lots less maintenance and headaches, I'm looking forward to it.
Will be interesting to see the FCP X retina display version installed on one of those new puppies. Will be paying the Apple retail store a visit when it's released next week (hopefully).
Major Aperture update, too. Looking forward to that.

So many other PC multimedia laptops are going for the bigger screens, its kind of a shame there will be no option for mac users (a lot of gaming pc laptops are also going big, also odd considering Apple actually made a point out of gaming with the new MBP).
Still, at least my 17" was the last of line, and specced out. Should last me a few good years.
Using Apple TV we can now use our TV's as an external monitor to edit on (in Mountain Lion)?

Apparently Apple thinks otherwise. There is a "new" icon above the Mac Pro icon on this page in the Apple Store . Apparently the processor has been upgraded to a Xeon X5675 and is slightly faster.
I'm still waiting for a new generation iMac. Someday.

I've been on fibre in the studios that require it, but not on Ethernet. Don't assume every studio in the world is set up the same.
So, you ask where have I been for the last two years? I've been on fibre channel.
But more and more of the work we do here has been remote locations where lugging a tower around is not practical. Not everyone works this way, but we do.
Come on guys, everyone is going to have an opinion on what they need. Let's not turn this into personal bickering.

Why are you pissed at the end of the 17" Macbook Pro? The resolution increase of the Retina Display is going to be dramatically better than that of the 17".
Using an Apple TV over AirDisplay will result in horrible performance. A connected, calibrated monitor is still your best bet and on the next gen Macbook Pro you can connect one via HDMI!

I think the more time they take to redesign the better. I know many pros are anxious over this topic, but its for the best. Hopefully Apple will work with Intel to completely eliminate the bottleneck in the front side bus of most desktops and make the Mac Pro both quieter, less prone to dust, and fully integrate Thunderbolt. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shift from internal storage, the elimination of optical drives, and the adoption of USB3.0.

Quality is good, but size is always better.
When you have a group of people crowding around you looking at clips in the field you want size.
But, the 17" was never that popular outside of graphic designers, photographers and filmmakers.

MacRumors.com has a link to iFixIt's breakdown. Least repairable Apple laptop to date.
Also, they have a link to benchmark tests. The non-Retinal 15" MBP is faster than the retina version. So, do I want a sharp TINY screen to edit on? Or do I want resolution that works just fine for editing in a faster laptop?
