Canon XF100 ingest? was created by BenB
I don't own one, but a student does, and is asking me how to get the footage in to FCP X. Any one have one?

XfcpX works great. It rewraps the files into an MPEG2 .mov. It is pretty easy to use:
- Archive your card with the XF Utility.
- Navigate XfcpX to the archive folder and set a target directory.
- Ingest the files from this directory into FCP X.
The rewrapping takes about 10 minutes for a 64GB card (Transcend 400x).
If you are fine with editing MPEG2, there's no need to transcode - no orange bar either if you set your project preferences to first clip.
However, it splits the clips into 2GB junks. I have audio hiccups in the frame between the splits sometimes. The programmer has promised to fix the 2GB problem soon.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to my students, and keep an eye on it's development in the future.

Someone, who knows the brother in law of the cousin of the uncle of the sister of the wife of a mail clerk at Canon, mentioned that, according to his reliable sources, Canon is working very hard on the FCP X plugin. It's supposed to come out later this month.

My bet is now that FCP X is starting to actually grow in popularity, the nay-sayers are eating crow, and it's starting to catch on, you'll see all camera manufacturers starting to hurry those plugins out the door faster now.

Rune, the author of this amazing piece of software, mentioned on the apple forum that he's busy with a rewrite from scratch. The new version should be available during next week.
Who's gonna be faster, Rune or Canon? I'm taking bets
Ben, there was discussion about plugins for FCP X somewhere else. Some software folks mentioned that Apple was slow in releasing APIs. That's why there is (was?) a lag in plugs.
The install base of FCP X is big enough meanwhile to justify a bunch of cottage, or bigger, industries around it.

I think the very large and continuously growing collection of free templates here on this site shows how much can be done when end users are empowered to create their own effects and stuff.
The 1.1 FCPXML update really helped out, as can be seen by the large number of commercial third party stuff that popped up on the market with the release of FCP X 10.0.3. The API is out, but the FCPXML maturing does help third party developers a lot, too.
Plugins have to follow the Motion parameters, so it's a whole new way of doing things for developers. But it seems they're starting to catch on more and more.

I got the Beta of XfcpX 2. On Snow Leopard it crashes while opening. Have contacted Rune about the issue, but no answer yet - still early in Denmark.
Seems I finally have to bite into the sour apple and get Lion....
In any case, Rune is putting a lot of effort into this app. He has rewritten it from scratch, and went from Java to Cocoa.
