OT- DOJ Production Probe... was created by Jonathan Levin
I've been following this for the past few days. I'd be interested in any comments, or if you feel this has affected you. I don't know if this is a worldwide investigation, or just here in the states.

If I regularly bid on work against an accused ad agency, I'd be pretty angry. But then, what advantage is there to bidding a job you have as an agency, when you have in-house production resources to just do it?

… hmm, lack of English skills here, I guess, 'cause I completely miss the point, although having worked in the ad business for +20y (ok, centuries ago...) :
ad-agencies prefer their in-house production. ok, what a shock.
(but what client prefers the outcome of some in-house tinkerers?? What agency has a Tony Scott on its payroll??)
ext. producer have to make a bid to get a job. surprise.
Now: agencies are accused they forced the ext. producers to make a HIGHER bid, to reason preference of in-house production? And the ext. producers are willing to do this because "… In other cases, these people said, production houses agree to up their bids because ad agencies promise them work in the future …" ??
working, or in this case, not working on spec? hahaha, NO single professional company is doing that! Except, as the bigger agencies did I work for, they had budget a 'competition fond', play-money for acquiring new clients …
My experience is early 80ies, one single (midsize=lots of local clients) agency I worked for had indeed an in-house photographer - and his photos were crap. Product shots for catalogues, yep, white limbo, light tent, next. But the minute, people appeared in frame - o.m.g.!!
… interesting storm in a waterglas, or I really miss the size of this story.-
And, Jonathan, I allowed me to put your OT into Off-Topic section of this board, ok?
