Werner Herzog Online Tutorial was created by Karsten Schlüter
Just stumbled over this 'offer':
www.masterclass.com/classes/werner-herzog-teaches-filmmaking
= 90$, 6h exclusive videos, a 30pgs working book (…for dl) and an option for feedback ..
Since Larry Jordan's average, the more general topic 'earning money with online tutorials' made it in my 'relevant set'. Now, a calibre like Herzog (or Kevin Spacey et al mentioned on that site) for 90$ … wow, that's … cheap.
OK, haven't seen it, but by discription, 6h Hr. Herzog talking about movie-making, certainly a must for all film-schoolers
That is globally… 1.000? 10.000? (fee Herzog, producing 6h video, website, traffic, working book, handling, reading/answering requests, … office, rent, tax, insurrance, legals)
… is this a business?
And how shall Jane Doe, a genius and perfect teacher with absolute no renommé, enter the market for tutorials, if you compete with such battleships? For that price??
… salesnumbers would be interesting, for sure; … breaking some benchmark and it's incredible business.
And from the other perspective: hey, I get a day with Werner Herzog for just 90$!!
(just to mention: you have to pay me 90€ to listen half a day to him …

It looks like a great idea, film making is but a tiny part of media production.
Only so many films can be viewed, any way if you want to learn anything about film making, then watch film from the 1st 50 years of film, how they did effects, the editing.
A great film-maker is some one that fully grasps film history, what we do in 2016 is a direct result of those film makers in 1896!
When are you a film maker and not something else? What makes a film maker? Are you a director, editor, camera operator, sound recordist, lighting technical department, make up, props, costumes, location scout, talent scout, researcher, helicopter/quadcopter operator.
What, rather, who is a film maker? What is this thing called film maker? I have been in the arts world from the age of 3, and I have no idea what a film maker is...I know about the careers listed above, how they contribute to the production, we call film, but what is a film maker??? What exactly does a film maker do, that say a director does not?? Why 2 terms???

Traditionally it referred to the producer and/or director. But today, "videographers" are calling themselves "filmmakers", even though not one of them has ever touched celluloid film. Today, in common conversation, it is such a misused term, it really has no meaning, is a wide open, meaningless word.
It is a nice effort for celebrities to get in on the video training market. Acting, directing, tennis...
I'd like to hear from someone who's actually paid for and watched the whole course. That would be interesting.
In the meantime:

// warning, tons of Deutsch ahead //
… first of all it's a lame, misleading translation (should be better a loanword), esp. in context with Werner Herzog.
He's one of the top representatives of the Neues Deutsches Kino , Fassbinder, Schlöndorf, Wenders ...
We are in the Sixties, nouvelle vague , students revolt, yaddayadda - a single 'director' giving orders to the movie making collective? No way. Alone to diversify into diff. crafts is NoGo, the free spirit demands: "everybody can do everything" ... auteur movies were hip, the single genius, from writing the book, along operating cam, up to final edit ...
So, a new word was needed - no, not Reinemachefrau, but FILMEMACHER, as 40y before, guys like Brecht called themselfs Theatermacher.
In nowadays standards of Political Correctness an excellent word - s/he 'makes' the movie... ok, if anyone has seen Fassbinder on set (lots of docus avail), that's the direct oppoite of p.c., but anyhow, the invicible gap btw theory and practice......
summary:
filmmaker, or in its origine Filmemacher: term from the sixties, describing a person who's in charge and performing most/all key-positions of creating a movie, from writing, to directing.
