How do you organise your private Videos that are captured over iPhone, GoPro or any other video camera.
I have been using FCPX but I am feeling that this isn't a good alternative to Photos for example.
Especially when it comes down in managing your content and the flexibility to iMovie and Photos are limited to FCPX when it comes to show and tell.

So what do you use or how for your private content?

Black Magic Designs offers the free media express which will allow you to organize and playback your clips but you may need a Black Magic playback card to hear the audio. The latest versions seem not to use Mac system audio but rather audio out only from the various Decklink cards. If you google video catalog or organizer programs you'll find a few choices. For camera specific organizing, Sony Catalyst Browse handles pretty much all Sony clips, Panasonic P2 Viewer Plus handles Panasonic P2 and AVC Ultra family clips. The BMD media express handles most formats and is not camera specific.

THX for the info but they seem a bit overkill for private use.

Good subject...

For all my private content I am actually thinking about moving everything to Apple Photos.
Just for the reason it will make it easy for everybody to find and share. On top of that there is integration in iMovie and Final Cut Pro X plus plugins for Affinity Photo.

Photos, and it is getting a big improvement with Sierra. I tried Pixave, you may want to look at that. But I'm sticking with Photos. Pixelnator's got one or two plugins that work in Photos, also.

So you do not use iMovie to manage your Personal videos?

No, I use FCPX to manage my videos. It is a video application with an excellent database system. And has direct access to my photography library.

I use a photo application to manage all my photographs and graphic files.

Why would i touch iMovie? I don't even think I have iMovie on my system any more.

Thanks for the input, but I as I mentioned above I was actually wondering what everybody else uses for personal videos since FCPX is great for Managing on Professional bases but it is horrible sharing it.

I use Photos too. When I want to see memories I dont make the difference between photos and videos. So they are all there at the same place.

iCloud Photo Library can only sync items that are stored inside the Photos Library. If you imported the videos as referenced, they cannot sync to iCloud Photo Library.

I wasn't aware you can import media into Apple Photos as Reference.

You could also just use a folder, or a series of sub-folders in the Finder, and use Finder tags and comments to organize and label. Then to smart folders and spotlight searches to find stuff. The nice thing is, your finder tags will import into keywords and tags in FCPX.

Or Adobe Bridge, if you want to add big metadata.

You're basically looking at a DAM (digital asset manager). If you really want to get into it, Peter Krogh is the Man.

He's a photographer, but what he says would apply to video assets as well. He's big on building a system, with backups, but it doesn't have to be onerous to work. Just bombproof.
