Those who do weddings, how do you ask for reviews?

I'm trying to think of a way to display some reviews from customers on my website for the weddings i've done for them, i just don't know how to go about asking them. Should i just send them an email asking to email me back a quick 1-2 sentence review if they'd like? Is there a site i should use to have them fill out a survey or review thing?

how does anyone else do this with clients?

Survey Monkey, free, put in 4 easy, yet pertinent questions, end with a comment box.

Or just blatantly ask for testimonials in an email. I used to snail mail them a request, on nice paper, carefully handwritten, make it look like you took the time to make the effort, shows you care, motivates a client more.

been in ad agencies for +15y, ok some hundred years ago ;) , but socalled 'testimonials' exist just in two versions:
• fake - ask for permission to write the customers name under your text
• make an interview, eye2eye, phone, and put your words into their mouth ....

when you ask for respond, you get two answers: "great, awesome, phantastic" = they paid you a lot of money, it has to be great for them.
or, pages of text, some people feel the need to tell the world everything (mostly 'critical')

soooo:
grab the phone, have a nice chat, lots of general talking, "how's it being married" = warm-up, then come to your product. Avoid by all means Qs which allow Yes/No answers "Did you like it?" .... ask how Mom liked it; what did BFF say to it; highlight of the movie... when positve responds collected, ask three reasons why s/he recommends you other couples.
... finally, "may I quote you?" ... when the whole chat was lots of laughter (the couple I made a wedding movie for was divorced 6 months later…), everybody will give ok.

..... and here comes the tricky part:
for sure you have to tape the call ... which is in some areas illegal, if you not ask for permission BEFORE the talk..... which kills the atmosphere from the start ... so, <cough> find a solution <cough> ... maybe you're just a man with excellent memory <cough> ........

good luck with your business!
