Is there an App for that?

Is there an App for that? was created by Blackburn
I've made some collages from video still shots, using between 20 and 30 images per collage.
What I would like to do, if there is such an App, is to animate/play video in the collage, if the viewers move their cursor upon or select one or more images.
Sounds to me like something that perhaps exists in web-design software, but what I'd like to make would be something off the web that members of the family can play on their iPad and iPhones.
...
Edit: Didn't find anything on the App Store that seems adequate, Vidstitch and PhotoVideoCollage Pro both appear to use templates where less than 10 videos can be shown. There are also mostly negative reviews, little positive feedback.
Having a lot of material, I'd like to fill the screen with more images/thumbnails, and that the viewer would then have more to choose from.

Xcode is a free download on the mac app store.
You do have to sign up for the $99 a year developer program to be able to distribute an app you've made though.
In the past anything like that would have probably been made with something like flash, I don't know if you could do it with HTML5 or not.

If I understand the question correctly, then the question is as I understand is basically asking about dropzones.
I guess you would need an dvd studio pro, from legacy Final Cut Studio 2 or 3, this would allow you to create dropzones on the screen, that when pressed would jump to that portion of the timeline.
The collages are just short video clips, when strung out on a timeline, could be controlled by the mouse, through dropzones, which would I think work on quicktime, or create a virtual dvd.
The problem with this is that dvd is standard definition and limited to 2 hours or about 1400MB on a double density disk [dual layer I think it was called].
I think Ripple training in their tool box has a plug in that allows for multiple videos to be dropped in, basically doing the same thing as a dvd, but it uses markers and is in HD. In fact I am pretty certain of that.
Motion would be a great tool, as it can create drop zones, which you then publish to FCPX, then drop the clips into the "wells" maybe that might be a way forward, I am not a user of motion but I recall something like this being mentioned, and it makes sense.
I am trying to give ideas about where to look, tools that are already around in some form or another!!

There's no interactivity in digital video like the OP is looking for, having things react to a mouseover or mouse click. That'd be an app, or a web site. Yes, HTML5 can do things like that just fine, and probably would be the way to go. Check out Rapidweaver, which would help make the process a lot easier. I use it and love it. Has tons of third party plugins for functions such as this. But yes, that would be an online thing, and HTML5. Flash is all but dead, if not woefully outdated.

Mark, it sounds like fun to make an app, but are there enough hours in the day? I see myself (constantly) getting lured into time consuming work with effects, when the more basic task is yet unfinished; making good copies/edits of all the analog and digital recordings I've got. Frequently I'm reminding myself to return to basic editing and storing it all in a good way.
I looked at what could be done in iWeb and iDvd, and iWeb allows dropping and sizing many items on a page, in collage fashion. I could size down the content, in shorter 'highlight' fashion and put it in the cloud - that might be OK as a way to present what the various recordings are about.
MsJ, thanks for those ideas. I had a look at the Ripple Training plugins, and I'll also check out what Motion can do; I've never looked at that application.
Another idea I had was to just use FCPX to have the collage be an attractive still shot for a few seconds, then come to life, where some items or all of them play for a few moments.
There's an expression in Norwegian that something is a 'luxury problem', the luxury here is that over years I've recorded a lot of excellent scenes, enough that it is impossible to keep them all in mind, and the collage device is perhaps a way of displaying more scenes at once.
Both with photos and videos it's a bigger task than back in the day when a mother or father made a few photo albums to occasionally look at, without it taking hours or days. Now everyone in the family records so much on different devices that it's a challenge to condense and edit, as should be done.
Ben, thanks! Will do.

Looks good for slideshows, but isn't FCPX able to make whatever Boinx does? I looked though the site but didn't find much there about what the program allows done with video.
Let's say you want an attractive style of overview for approx. 200 short films that someone then can browse through without it being dull. What's a good way to do that?

HTML 5
That's not a video editing function, period.
Or learn to program.
Or do it on a Blu-ray DVD.
But you won't get this in an NLE, just not the nature of the beast.
Seriously, HTML 5. Since the OP was not about a photomontage, but about a "collage" where you can "click" on something to bring it up and be active. That's either a web page, or DVD menu, not a broadcast video or film.
If all you want it a video montage, then 200 drop zones is wishful, and unrealistic thinking. You need an app for that much power. No magic "make is so" button exists.

Glad I got that straightened out!
Actually I hadn't thought of 200 items at once; more like 10 collages x 20 scenes - But maybe you're on to something there, Ben, since big screens or projectors are becoming more common... not a bad suggestion!
