Wow, this doesn't look promising for Avid's longevity.

did you notice....?
articles 'opener' illustrates audio/ProTools, articles text but is about video/Avid.
I would expect from a journalist to shade both sectors in different light. In my amateurish perspective, proTools should still be a profit-center, but Avid NLE isn't top dog anymore...
All those super successfully 'one man bands' (or, lately read the silly phrase 'trunk producers' - wot?? ) in the age of YT, Vimeo, Social Media, don't need those dinosaurs anymore.... And it's proably no business model, to have 20 clients… ok 100… 1000? …

Avid used to own lots of hardware manufacturing. They bought up several smaller companies. But that proprietary hardware, and that whole devision was dragging on them. They sold most of it off. I bet they sell off all their hardware and concentrate on software eventually. Keep the core stuff, drop the baggage. M-Audio used to belong to them, but they sold it off to someone a few years ago I believe. M-Audio has become more and more of a disappointment ever since. Will be interesting to see what the next 5-10 years has in store for ol' Avid.
When you refuse to disclose the number of folks you're laying off, well, I think it is reasonable for folks to assume it is a LOT of layoffs.
