I know there was some software I used years ago, that recognized when I mounted a camera card, and automatically created a DMG of the card. Or maybe it just created a folder and copied the card content verbatim into the folder. Anyone remember what that was? Is there something like that out today?

Check ShotPutPro, it recognises a card for auto offload, you can make offload presets, MD-5 Checksum logs, multiple destinations ... A bit expensive but a great tool, but you still have to drag the card to the queue ... from there very good.

Yeah, that was it, ShotPut. I'm also looking at Offloaded from Red Giant software. Anyone use both and have an opinion?

I ran a trial of RedGiant Offload and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

ShotPut has a lot more options for twice the price.

In my tests yesterday, we found that doing a manually drag-and-drop was actually faster then using either app, in our specific situation.

True, but with these apps the primary goal is safety of data transfer, ... insurance.
But just drag & drop never gave me a problem with media.
It's an app that is recommended by my school when you're on a job, to protect ourselves when doing no budget D.I.T. functions.

You can also use "Automator" and set up workflows either as App or Services to copy the card as dmg, transcode to ProRes if you want, name files, copy to location/folder, and various other actions. All 1 click away.
Inset card, drop icon on App; or highlight icon and use Services to run Automator workflow routine. You can create keyboard shortcuts for Automator created Services.
Sorry not sure about Red files, but don't see any reason it wouldn't make an exact copy using the disk image action. ProRes creation should also be available(???) If needed, you could add Apple Script to "Tell App" to create ProRes using any program you want.
Best part is it is Free and you control the workflow actions.

Hope this helps, Greg

Yes, that's the way, somebody at school told me he did something like that.
I'm a Automator newbie, I use it to launch apps with keyboard shortcuts, mostly .xml apps.

I'm gonna give it it try with ShotPut.

Slightly off Topic
There is a BareFeats article comparing Lexar USB3 reader speeds vs using built-in SD card slot. Big speed boost in downloading files.
Couple that with the fact that Lexar has multi-card USB3 or TB reader hubs that you plug the "Readers" into, and for folks with lots of cards coming in it would be worth it.
The Lexar readers come in various configurations, SD, micro SD, CF, and others and they all can be used directly in a computer port or via the Reader hub. The 4 bay USB3 hub is/was on sale on Amazon for $40USD.

Just thought I'd pass the speed test along. Interesting. Wonder about other USB3 card readers vs using the card slot directly.

Hope this helps, Greg

I have been using Comfort Silverstack for my Data Management gigs and I must say I won't left it behind.
They also have many other interesting Applications for DIT.

Hi, here's some new Dutch option, just released. www.hedgeformac.com
It's got a free version, for the moment you can only copy disks/volumes/cards bit by bit with verification to multiple destinations, (free version max. two destinations), but you can't
copy a folder :( . It's high on their list they said. You can also extend automated workflows with compressor etc... :woohoo:

Not bad I will defiantly check it out. Looks cool and useful for copying material.
For Media I think Silverstack is still the better choice. ;)
