Video Sharing Sites (Advice) was created by shane.yost
I'm going to be filming in Thailand for 2 weeks and need some advice on purchasing a license with a video sharing site like Vimeo or others. I want my work to look exquisite and be able to reduce any decrease in quality from my uploads the best I can.
Ever since I started using FCPX I've been so picky about what I "share". FCPX is so powerful/addictive and because i'll be using it to edit/promote my vids from Thailand I want to make sure I'm going with the right video sharing site. I've read so many articles on what video sharing sites are recommended but I wanted to get some direct advice from yall's experience.
~Thanks
Shane

Hi Shane, welcome to FCP.co!
Just some general meant advice:
Video Hosters are the very end of any work-chain.
'Quality' is defined at the very beginning: excellent camera, max codec settings, smart handling ('It's all about photography'); then in the NLE, avoid useless transcodings as possible; export/upload in max possible quality.-
Then, even YouTube delivers impressive results.
Have to admit, Vimeo is the 'film makers site and has more interesting options in monetizing.-
Two weeks is short, but why not testing it? With your own material? Vary parameters, crank all up - does it noticeable differ from the 'all-50%'-version? If you notice loss - at what point of your workflow? ...
A 50GBs proRes upload, from a shakey, grainy, noisy, boring recording has no quality - even on Vimeo :woohoo:
PS: your profile pix needs some color.correction ... :silly:

Vimeo's encoding quality is FAR SUPERIOR to YouTube, hands down. Plus the extra features are very well worth it.
Your own web vids for friends and stuff and junk, the YouTube social media site is it.
If this is for business, a client, Vimeo all the way, no question.

I've posted some short vids on Facebook the last 18 months, and their video features have been improving.
That's a good outlet for showing stuff to your acquaintances and their friends - keep it private and you don't need to fret so much about whatever music you wish to make use of.
