Who's watching Larry Jordan anyhow??? was created by Karsten Schlüter
Since my beginnings of using FCPX, Larry Jordan is on my list of senseis, teaching me tricks and telling me insights of my favorite NLE.
Aside the fact, rippletraining offers me for a couple of years much more infos, useful recipes and smart hints than Mr Jordan, I stumbled today (holiday season=a good time diggin' thru 'unwatched') upon click-rates:
His 'Digitial Production Buzz' podcast, highly sophisticated poduced, has less than 200 clicks... The one from last week list right now 102 ... I can top that numbers with my boring junior league soccer-reports, just a handful people are interested in!
I'm flabbergasted!
… ok, his pastoral way of speaking doesn't met everybodys taste (The Bob Ross of Movie Making << I claim a copyright on that phrase!!), and, for whom is this show made anyhow - no new news for pros I guess, and not directly hitting my interests as a hobbyist. Anyhow …
… a bit frightened, someone his expertise has so little audience. .... e.g. the 'In Under 5min' from The Ripple-Twins (<<<again, trademark pending!!) are constantly +3k clicks....
hmmm.... odd.

I bought Larry Jordan's tutorials when FCPX first came out and they were absolutely invaluable to me. His teacherly style fitted the learning of FCPX's new paradigm as he kept emphasising the aspects that were very different from the NLEs I was used to as a pro. Without them I may well have switched over to Adobe out of frustration (due to my own lack of understanding). I love Ripple Training (at least he free ones, haven't paid) as I see them as handy tip videos that I can dip into.

Ripple cuts the fat and gets right to things. Larry is very old school and puts in a lot of fluff simply for showmanship, humor, etc. But Ripple gets to the point very quickly, packs more education into less time. IMHO. Larry has branched out and relies on Adobe training much more than Apple training these days. Larry sticks to more basics, Ripple branches out in to more detail about the advanced techniques than Larry does. IMHO...
Larry's podcast was very hot back in the day. But he has more folks covering a wider variety of subjects, and online audiences are more picky, so folks will listen only to what they want to listen too, rarely the whole podcast in one sitting. I used to listen to it weekly, but now it is just rehashed info to me. If someone was just starting out, it is a great resource.
As for judging click-throughs, there are dozens of sources for those, so any reference you read to it, is only a partial story. Remember Digital Production Buzz is a live radio show, so there's a huge audience live in L.A. listening in that don't register as click-throughs.
Larry is a friend, and I can assure you, his business is very healthy, their sales are really good, Larry is in no danger of going out of business any time soon. I'd have to say that Karsten's You/Tube click rate finding is partial, don't included all click rates, nor does it disclose sales numbers, so I'd ignore that information as grossly incomplete and utterly unless. IMHO...

I guess you meant useless.
… don't get me wrong: Mr Jordan offers superb help and tutorials!
I will never forget his 25minutes on-stage, how to color correct skin-tones, if no reference is in the frame … plain, simple, effective....
And that YT-numbers have no significance at all.
… but for some people they have.
… it just tells me, that, again, some of my perspectives are plain wrong; no, editing is no issue zillions are interested in, it's a niche thing ... reminds me, back in the iLIfe06 days, when I was told from reliable source, iMovie was the less used app in that package - even iWeb (ages of mac.com etc) had more users than iMovie! … according to Apple insiders...- What a shock for me, imposssible! ...
No, not my intend to 'disrespect' Mr Jordan by any means … very helpful, tons of insight.
(ok, to compare anyone with Bob Ross could be understood as insulting
)

Again, Larry's business, as well as Ripple's, is based on "sales of product". The number of clicks to a specific YouTube video tells us nothing, as most folks who actually purchase their products never hit the YT videos. Just like most sales of software I've had access to information on, are mostly from folks who did not use the free trial version. So number of free trial downloads has no bearing on success of actual sales.
DPB? Overwhelming number of folks listen to it live, not on the edited YouTube version posted after the live broadcast (both on-air in L.A. and live web). Again, those click numbers tell you nothing.

That was, in review, an (too) optimistic assumption.
To quote from Larry's blog:
It all boils down to the stone-old question "How to make money in the web?". And the fate of LJ's company tells me "I have no clue!". It looks like, web is 'free' public relation, but real money is spend and earned only in the real world (anything boxed, or workshops, etc).
FCPX is sold like no other FP-incarnations combined before, you told us Ben; theoretically, that should mean a growing business opportunity - not so for LJ.com ... 'knowledge' is a volatile substance, and esp. the younger ones are not willing to pay a ¢ for it.
For a while, I was interested in visiting 'real life tutorials' … even there prices are in free fall.... how to make it there for living??
No good news for us 'Silverbacks':
Experience is getting priceless - in a negative meaning.
