Me, intermediate videographer. Shooting with canon HF, XA, and using external audio recording devices.
A realtor has approached me wanting a video containing a company logo, and seven individual 40sec videos interviews with fellow realtors.
Here's what I tossed out to him... (not in this detail)
4hr one location ($125.00 each additional hour, 1hour minimum)
Travel Time - $20.00
Seconds wage - $80.00
my business fee- $200.00
Post Production
my business fee- $250.00
7 40 sec separate interviews clips - $175.00
Music/plugins - $30.00
Total price - $755.00
P.S I didn't give him these details.
Seems to me I've been more then reasonable with my pricing for someone with for my experience.
I'm not a big shot video guy but I've got some talent and my time has value.
Feed back, neg. or pos. would be appreciated

I guess, the prices for labour vary, depending on which continent you live...
So, just a comment about your time-management, maybe lack of language, or lack of reading your calculation:
You plan to do 7 interviews within 4h? 'Interview' means in my understanding: no professional actors, prepped to perform a script, but John & Jane Doe, hopefully answering beyond "yes/no" ...
And you calculate an hour ~125$, right?
And for editing all seven interviews 175$, so - compared to your recording price - a little more than an hour ... all seven, or each?
recording 7 interviews in 4h is .... sporty. 35min each, including correcting light, changing batteries, fixing the lavs, powdering the nose, a glas of champagne to make Jane a bit more casual... And you edit in no time.
.... btw: you solo? No assistent? For 'Rembrandt lighting' you need at last one helping hand, the bouncer.
Don't know the prices in your area - but to do that in no-time ..... that's a universal wish of any client around the globe ... you should 'calculate' hh:min first. Realistic. Set-up for an interview, before the house or inside (half time doing the interviews, it will start to rain, promised, even when you're in Death Valley :silly: ) needs some time; even when using same location, same light for all seven... (you can operate a cam, an audio recorder AND perform an interview....?)
... perhaps/hopefully I just misunderstand your calculation.... :S

Those videos will take you an absolute minimum of 2 hours each to produce when taking into account every minute you spend on the project. If that hourly rate after expenses works for you then go for it. I think you're under where you want to be though.

I am encountering lots of people who think this business is nothing more then a plug-and-play service.
Avoid the trap of cutting prices just to get a paying job is a hard pill to swallow.
Another associate of mine said, those customers who whittle you down to bare bones are generally the worst to work with.
Thanks for your support

Yes, and have them pay you what you're worth! Do NOT back down. If they don't hire you, they never could afford you, and/or are not serious. Trust me. Stick to your guns and things will work out. Let your work speak for itself. And if someone has to think twice about your prices, they aren't serious, and will never be able to afford you, move on.
