Hello, I am looking for a FTP server software for OSX. I know Rumpus is the best all around but is much to expensive at $295 for what I need and FileZilla has no server version for Mac. I do not want to use command line and enable FTP features in OS X because I need multiple users with multiple levels of access.

Any idea of a good FTP software server

If you want OS X to be the FTP server, then OS X Server has that built in.

If you want a client, go with Fetch.

@BenB, Thank you for your answor but I do not need 100% uptime for my server, only when I need something big to transfer to my clients or upload from my clients to me. I need something small, quick to configure.

Why not go with an online file transfer service, since they're already set up and have the security in place, etc?

Configuring an FTP server, something I've done a bit in the past, not something I'd want to do manually again, and have to babysit myself.

If you have some need, or desire to delve into the abyss of FTP (and security vulnerabilities), try FileZilla.

There is also CrushFTP.

Thank you Ben for your answer.
For online transfer services usually I have low transfer speeds even with my connection of 1Gb/s, and constantly have to manage the free space.

I wil try CrushFTP.

OS X Server is only $20, BTW. Let us know how it works out. I'll be interested to hear what you finally get configured. Sounds like an interesting project.

As for transfer speed, that won't change just because you put the FTP server on your Mac, that is a constant regulated by your local ISP.

But please do check back in and let us know what you find out. Very adventurous, and fun sounding project.

Crush FTP is not as fast as I thought. The interface is painfuly slow and not suitable for fast usage. So I droped the ideea for FTP server under OSX and I configured an old[ish] low power PC only for that job. Is much like a Mac Mini only running Windows and TYPSoft FTP Server. IT is great, easy to configure, very fast, I can manage it remotely and the upload and download speeds are great and is stable... so far.

On OSX I am i'm trying a litle trick: MAMP Apache Server and a custom webpage with a big Download Button. On click the file is downloaded to client's computer at full speed. This is experimental only for now.
