2D animation in FCP?

Hey guys :)

I had such a great response in here the last time I had a question, I'm gonna give it another go! I am looking to create a 2D animation video using .eps-files. I have a background, and I would like a cloud to fly from one side of the screen to the other as well as footprints on the ground fading in and out, imitating a guy walking across the screen.

The last part with the footprints I gather is quite easy with some dissolves, but the part that has me stumped is the cloud moving across the screen... Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for your help! :cheer:

Best regards,
ShortyDK

that's what key framing is for:
set a start- and an end-point in the Transformation pane - done.

… but does FCPX support vector-graphics?

Ahhh, okay :) I've never used key framing before, so I'll get right on that, thanks a bunch!

FCP X doesn't support vector graphics as .eps or .ai-formats, but it does support .pdf.

psd is handy in FCPX, because double-clicking it opens it in its own timeline, where you can control each layer separately...

For some 'cloud upon the sky' I would export from within your vector-graphic app as png - that keeps the transparency.

awesome, didn't know you could double-click pdfs in FCPX :)

Yeah, I thought that would work with .pdf as well, but it didn't do very well with the transparency, so that was the conclusion I also reached.

Now that you are here... Any chance you can explain to me why my .pdf-file won't extend beyond 23 frames? (see the attached file for screenshot)

you can do funny stuff with psd :

stills have no 'real' length.
I don't understand exactly: you can not extend it?

I just tested, and aside from 10.1.4 ignoring the 4 second still duration I set in Preferences, I have no limits like that on PDFs, PNGs, or JPEGs.

I've made a video of the problem: gupl.dk/717452/ Press the yellow button, where it says "KLIK HER FOR AT DOWNLOADE FILEN"

Yes, PSDs default to 60 seconds no matter what. Everything else should default to what is set in the Preferences, although there seems to be a bug for that in 10.1.4.
