Well, Perian is officially dead. Personally, I removed it from my system a long time ago. Too many issues. I can't count how many FCP users in the past I know removed it due to issues. So, for those of you who've been around awhile, and are experienced with Perian, would you recommend a user download it now, or not? Pros, cons?

Oh hell, no. Perian is old news, and while I had few problems with it myself I did get fed up of the troubleshooting approach: "First, disable Perian and restart. Does that fix the issue?"
I don't let it near any of my current systems. VLC handles the small minority of files that aren't H.264.

I have it installed but for playback I'm using MplayerX more and more and I prefer it to VLC
