How to backup without connection to Mac with FCPX?
I have been recommended to backup FCPX-files through FCPX. Not just dragging files in Finder.
But I don't want to connect my WD to my Mac.
How can I backup my content without connection to my Mac?

Copy and move projects and events inside of FCP X, but "backup" is something totally different.
Here's how I do backups.
Why do you not want to connect your WD drive to your Mac?

What the hell are you talking about? Of course you can't copy files to a drive that is not connected. My english might not be perfect, but I'm not stupid!BenB wrote: You can't copy files to a drive that is not connected. That defies physics.

And by backup, I mean copy.
And I don't want to connect my WD drive because of the Mavericks and WD trouble.

Or I'm simply not understanding what you mean, and will bow out and let someone else answer.

Can I connect my WD drives to a PC with Windows, and then copy events inside the folders? Or do I have to copy files within FCPX?

Also, if you copy to a Windows formatted drive, you may have issues.

Connect the drive that you don't want connected to your Mac to some other machine that is on a network shared with your Mac. Use one of the various network file transfer tools to copy the files. Since you won't be running FCPX on the non-Mac machine it makes little difference what tools you use to make the copies.
But.... do you even use the WD software that is causing issues? I have at least one WD drive connected to my iMac running Mavericks. Since I've NEVER used the WD software than came pre-loaded on the drive it's not an issue. I don't even have the software... the first thing I do with any new drive is re-partition and format it to my desired format. That guarantees any crap that was on the drive is gone.

BenB wrote: You can copy in the Finder. The only difference is that in the Finder, the Event or Project database keeps the same UUID number. When you copy them inside of FCP X, the app assigns a new UUID number to the new, copied databases. When FCP X launches, it can only read one database with a unique UUID. If if finds a second one with the same UUID, it will give you a warning it can't open duplicates.

I see, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining, Ben!

No, I don't. I formated the drives so hopefully the software isn't there. But when googling this I can't really understand why people need these softwares. I also read that there were some problem with exfat and Mavericks. I tried connecting WD just now, and it's working fine.
Thanks for informing!
