Is the royalty free music search tedium avoidable? was created by El Cuajinais
Ok so I have a pretty good feel for the music I want for a promo video. I’m looking for music in the style “The Beach” movie soundtrack. I purchased Sonicfire Pro but have not found anything satisfactory at their store. I also checked incompetech.com and have not come up with a song. These two places may have what I’m looking for, or they may not, but so far using their “advanced search” I have come up with nothing. By pure luck I stumbled upon this track which does have the feel and instrumentation I’m looking for:

The problem is that this track is too short. So far finding music has been by far the most painful part of editing for me. The background music of a video is everything to me, I won’t go forward with an edit until I find that perfect piece. At this point quality cameras have become so cheap that what I envy the most from multimillion productions is their access to almost any copyrighted music that comes to mind. That would make the job soooo much easier.
So my question to you fellow editors is: Is there a way to find royalty free music that does not involve the extremely tedious task of going to individual sites, and hearing 30-second clips, one by one while sitting at a desk? I’m thinking Pandora for royalty free music so I can listen on my daily commute and purchase what I like on the spot. That would be worlds better than the current tedium I go through. If that service doesn’t exist already the first enterprising soul to create I’m sure will make a killing.
Would I be better served trying to learn Garageband or LogicPro X? My instincts tell me tell me that would be crazy, I’m not a musician and am wearing enough hats already, but finding good royalty free music is so hard that the thought has started to cross my mind.

Find a local musician who is wanting to get into the scoring business, and work something out.
