At around 22 seconds and 50 seconds it looks like he's combining stop motion and "real life".
The horse is moving in normal speed, but the sugar-boy is also. Same goes when the trailer is arriving.

How did he do that?

Great spot! But nope, not stop-motion. Ingenious puppetry. According to the credits: Puppeteer: Claire Rabant

Great concept, brilliant execution.

Still can't figure how how they did that. Any clue?

My guess is mostly concealed rods, possibly also some wires/fishline that would have been rotoscoped out in post.

Have a bit of familiarity with puppets, having produced a number of videos like this for Merck Animal Health:

Ahh, perhaps the wire were green, like green screen?

… there's one scene which indicates imho a 100% how they did: when sugar-man opens his umbrella 00:22! By no means, you animate that 'drop' at the grip by stop-motion!

So, this is a stick-puppet, like a marionette, but steered by sticks.

You stumble into a few problems: sticks have to be 'vanished', but, as mentioned before, there's a sort of 'reverse green screen' technique, I demoed here:

plus, due to natural light, you have to be very precise to avoid shadows.

That scene with the horse in the bg is perfectly 'composited' - I dare to say: a 'simple' live-recording of that scene; tons of post-production to get rid of the sticks. ;)

here's another example, animating a puppet with sticks, not strings

No need to thank me. I'm just searching for inspiration. My goal now is to get a 'Staff Pick'. Have made 2 vacation footages, but they are apparently not convincing enough :)
