But what sets this apart so as to win Vimeo Staff Pick?

What percentages of its draw are in the editing, music, or universal appeal?

I think everyone would get a different draw to video. the first draw i saw is that you want to see how the baby looks different from day one to day 365, which i would think would be the story of the piece. the second draw would be...oh i like this song and babies are cute. the third draw would maybe be the pace of the video...which would be editing, which maybe a video editor would appreciate. the fourth draw i think is getting people to try a new hobby, someone sees the video and they want to maybe do it for their own kid to have a visual history.

as for me, the draw was i wanted to see what the boy looked like towards the latter end of the video...i ended up skipping to the end after 2:30 minutes in.

Interesting observations. I didn't know it was going to cover a year, so I wasn't engaged by that concept, the end surprised me (oops, spoiler alert). But the cute baby, music & pacing (short quick cuts often keep us wanting more), were very effective.
