The Future of iLife/iMovie/iPhoto was created by Karsten Schlüter
iMovie was and is the lil' brother of FinalCut, so a few thoughts from here
PURE SPECULATION! no insights whatsoever, just an enthusiastic user for years listening to his guts:
• there's some silly distinction btw. moving images and images, the average teen doesn't understand
• there's some silly distinction btw. moving images done with a video cam and done with a 'still' cam (and done with a phone!)
• for FOUR years (!) there's no revamp of iLife
• meanwhile, there's Instagram, Vine, Facebook ......
I wouldn't be surprised, if ...
Apples axes iLife.
There's only 'iMedia'
A 'pool' of Events, containing pix - stills, moving, whatever.
A 'pool' of templates, to prep pix, filters, 'themes'
drop-zone-editing
example: actual iMovieiOS has no copy/paste - why? the average user has no idea of re-using material!
example: have you ever tried iBooks? How simple it is to create a 'multimedia experience'?
drop-zones. done. Pages - same.
example: the trailer templates in actual iMovie
example: the 'looks' avail in Instagram, YouTube, etc.
so, iLife gets dumbing down. … for pros impossible to imagine, but possible
the enthusiastic hobbyist gets forwarded to FCPX (and Aperture)
the few users, needing green-screen, pic-in-pic, manual color corrections … = collegeTV get a FCPX discount
I'm not familiar with underlying techniques of data-bases, actually in use to handle 'media', but that distinction btw movies and stills is 2013 'old school'. there's no clear line, what is movie, anim.gif, meme, still, photo, graphic.- And for many users, there's no need to distinct.
I wouldn't be surprised, if Sir 'redux to max' Ive will tear down this wall.-
.... for pros, the interesting part could be the market for creating such templates. plugins for FCPX is nice, but selling a wedding.theme for 9.99 to 500.000 iMedia users is nicer! :silly:
too radical thought?
