A Master File is an uncompressed file. Exporting as Master file is a fast exporting method very useful, for example, to make sure your clip looks and sounds good before compressing it. Exporting as File exports a compressed file allowing you to choose the compression codec you prefer to use. You can read a good tutorial here
www.larryjordan.biz/fcp-x-export-master-file/
. Hope this helps.

For clarification, "Master File" has nothing to do with "uncompressed", which is rare these days. By default the FCP X "Master File" export is ProRes 422. "Master" simply implies you're making a master copy at full resolution (not uncompressed) for archive or reference purposes. It is exporting a file, just for a specific reason, if you want to be semantically specific.
Even if you chose to Share a Master File, you can change it to a highly compressed H.264, video only, audio only AIFF, whatever.
Minor semantics about the "export" process, which is the same no matter what your purposes are. You're just selecting one codec or the other.
