I'm sure Ram & CPU maxed out also contribute greatly (also optimal set-up, external drive, etc), but this guy thinks the card plays a huge part. What say you?

GPU is extremely important. GPU power is what makes my 2008 Mab Pro with internal SATA drives handle REDOCODE Raw native footage way better than my 15" rMBP with a Tbolt drive. But a computer is the sum of it's parts, so RAM, CPU and drive config all combine to gives overall performance.

hehe... ok, I see it now, my mind was just thinking CPU since that's what I wrote in the previous post...
Funny how the mind works that way.. You've probably seen that email floating around where they jumble & change all kinds of letters in words, but we can still read the paragraph no problem.

FCP X is known to take advantage of the GPU. If it has to be an nVidia card, I don't know. Depending how well this card works with Open GL.

I just got a fully loaded iMac. That thing flies through everything. I'd assume you'd get the same performance with a ATI card inside. For Adobe, the CUDA card is a revelation though.
