I thought this was kind of cool for all of us 5D Mark III users who want RAW video! Magic Lantern has done it. Although it's not even in the alpha stages yet, I've read that Magic Lantern's RAW video is pretty usable and it has the capabilities of doing up 3K. We are talking RED quality that is coming out of the 5D Mark III sensor. It still has some minor glitches that need to be worked out. I probably will be doing some tests at some point. Can't wait to get it into FCPX and see how it cuts! (WARNING: By using Magic Lantern this does void your warranty with Canon!)

I'm not familiar with Cinema DNG. Based on what I've read, that's what the output format from 5d3. How do you import it into FCPX?

Post workflow is here at the moment:

I just saw this video comparing the 5D Raw to the BMC Raw:

Its safe to say the 2nd hand value of a 5Dmk3 just jumped up in price.

Got some questions.

Is it possible to record in crop mode? I saw some raw-footages, and one clip was crop mode.
May this hack, like any other Magic Lantern hacks, do some damages to the camera?
How does the raw-files work with FCPX?

What´s the difference between 1000x memory card and a 95mb/s memory card?
What does the number, 1000x memory card means?
I have a Sandisk 95mb/s, extreme pro memory card, and I can not find out if I have a 1000x memory card.

The hack is still a beta hack under development; it has not been released to the public yet. There are a lot of bugs to be worked out first.

There has been some issues with the CF cards becoming very hot; other than that there has been no major hiccups.

Should be a few weeks (or possibly months) before the stable public version is released.

Also, you will need After Effects to work with the files.

Not going to work with FCPX anytime soon.

Bet you're glad you got that 5Dmk3 in the end, Neguah?!

I feel like I just got a new camera after all these recent updates (the new firmware for the clean HDMI, and now this new ML hack).

Yes, I´m very happy with the 5D mk3!
The picture quality are awesome, and I love the capability to use high ISO. It´s so much easier to shot video and take pictures in low light conditions.

What does the new HDMI upgrade do? Haven´t used the HDMI yet.

Adobe Effects... don´t think I will buy that. To expensive. Hope I can use the raw-files with FCPX sometime in the future.

But what does the 1000x on a memory card means?

If your card doesn't say 1000x on it, then its not a 1000x card....

Those 1000x CF cards are about 150mb/s.

FCPX does raw, but not that specific image sequence (I think). There will probably be some workaround coming down the line for FCPX, involving some transcode or something.

Here is an easier workaround than using AE if you have photoshop and quicktime 7 pro.

I think I´ll hang around until most bugs are fixed, and when there`s a way of getting raw-files into FCPX.

Recently I've seen a lot of 5D Mark III RAW videos. It's surprising me that there is so many 5D's with ML hack. From what I've been reading and Youtube'ing there a lot of work involving shooting and processing 5D RAW.

I really want RAW, but if it takes three times more work processing my clips, I don't have the time. Is it really that tedious processing it?
