At the risk of getting briefly way off topic.

Ween always fascinated me.

No one really knows if they split up or not (2012)

They are basically a duo and at least one of the duo has serious alcohol and drug issues.

When asked about the split...

One Side of the coin :

On July 20, Melchiondo addressed the supposed "break-up" and stated "I can only speak for myself, but as far as I’m concerned, as long as Aaron and I are both alive on this planet, Ween is still together. We’ve never broken up. The idea of quitting is just laughable. This isn’t something you can quit. This is a life sentence."

Other side of the coin :

Later, Freeman confirmed his departure from Ween was triggered by his desire to remain sober, saying "All that matters to me is that I’m getting sober. Becoming an out of control drug addict and alcoholic is my own fault and I take responsibility for it. I HAD to leave the Ween Organization's to stay sober."

I saw them once in concert in Berlin many years ago. And they played for about 30 people. And they gave 250% Which probably accounts for the use of certain substances.

Check out their art work for Chocolate and Cheese here :

I do not know much about playing the guitar but I suspect that they do a lot of it with the f**k you finger. Or at least that is how it sounds. Deceptively simple! Sure they provoke but they are masters so that is OK in my books.

One of my all time favourites which also gives a sense of what a Ween concert is like. (No video as such)

(With the Shit Creek boys/Each and every one a legend in and of them selves)

The funny thing about Ween is that they have possibly the most loyal fan base on the planet (25 years) and their fans make music videos.

Back on topic

Loved your last video TrixTrax

A big generous sound.

They have a clear message so I think it is fair enough to have the text on screen.

And the material. Wow. It is really shitty. But that is OK. It looks like the rest overs from an edit. Some how it all fits together because I guess in this case the music and the words are more important than band members strutting there stuff on stage or chicks in the hot tub!

Like these perfectly produced music videos are all well and good but at some point they get boring. Loved it.

Somehow it captures the spirit of our times. Something I saw recently on that horrible FB Site. “In 50 years no-one will care about the fiscal cliff or the Euro crisis. they´ll just ask - So the Arctic melted and then what did you do?-”

I for one fell addressed when they say we are the only people who “Grow flowers out of bones”

Going out on a limb here ;)

The pictures are like the bones and the text like the flowers. Bravo. They practice what they preach. :silly:

Also cool. The Jungle Brothers. They are smart. Not one single gold chain and the babes ;) when they appear all wear white doctor coats. And of course there is a nice simple little story! I

Double checked the gold chains. Ok there is one babe with a gold chain in one shot but it looks to me as if it was edited deliberately short! Understatement rocks. Apart from that the babes are wearing them on their glasses. Both of them. Love it.

This is genius. A music video made entirely from Stock Footage!
But check how he puts himself in every scene, it's hilarious (eating popcorn.. hehe).

Staff Pick at Vimeo

Song's not bad either

enjoy

Double YAAY! This is my first time I've been able to successfully embed a Vimeo here. :cheer:

This thread has about as much to do with editing for Music videos as “Zen and art of Motor Cycle Maintenance" has to do with Motor Cycle Maintenance. So finally.... with out further ado here is a little video that literally lives from the editing. Just watch does drum sticks. It could have been edited by a mathematician!!! It is so crap that it is great and it is so great that it is crap ;-)

Perhaps this thread IS actually about editing, without discussing each & every cut. Each video has an overall feel, created in large part by all the little cuts, effects, direction, etc. But ultimately it begins with the song, just like any film's success relies on a solid script. In this context, these last 2 are slightly lacking, they have little to no musical quality. The plant-man rapidly becomes banal & irritating, while the television track is a bit too preachy, more of a harangue with no melody or musical appeal. However, the TV track is very clever visually, the bombardment of images, juxtaposing religious symbols, the information overload, saturation & brainwashing points he's ranting about are all driven home, & at least he's got a sense of rhythm, unlike the plant-man who seems to have less musical talent than... well, a potted plant.

Also I think he missed a great opportunity in the close-up, to swap out his guitar strings for thin little vines or blades of grass...

Wow, that is bizarre. Who thinks up this stuff?
Some very clever deployment though, the camera tricks, FX, animation, very impressive, with equal parts twisted & creepy.

Very interesting, Ben. Thanks for sharing this. It's particularly interesting when watching the original music video how it starts off looking so low budget, yet in the behind the scenes footage we see what a large scale production it really was. When they first show the Macbook Pro with what looks like 3D software, I was curious if that was what they used to create the animated robot TV. But upon closer inspection it appears to be the controlling software for that articulated camera jib arm. Anyone know the name of that device? Later in the vid we see him "training" it for the shot. Amazing technology.

Hmm... wonder how much work those big belly guys get?

I saw this posted somewhere else before. It was possibly Peter who posted it as an example of what you can do with a Go Pro in this very forum. Saw it again today somewhere else.

You could also argue that it is a Music video.

One way or the other the idea is pretty cool and the editing. Well it is hard to say. It is really, really..... In German I would say “sportlich” which does not translate so well into english. The nearest thing I can think of is courageous! Which does not quite get there... Courageous and it works

Presently this song might be charting top 40, but don't let that diminish my coolness quotient (you know how indie music people view pop).

Very simple concept but again, brilliantly deployed.
And the ending is perfect...

Well I guess that this is all a lot of very personalised opinion. Sure I love the effect. It is very, well, yes effective. Could not stand the Music so I watched it a second time with the You tube Music muted and a David Byrne track.

I do not know, it very hard for me to put my finger on this. When I imagine the video with out the effect! Hmmmm. I am obsessed by structure. And what is going on here. We have a girl boy thing. Boy finds out more about girl by touching here. There is the band. And then towards the end, things start to disappear. With a couple of splashes/dripping paint thrown in for good measure.

I have the feeling that this video could have been edited way better. Like why do we have that recurring shot of dripping paint always coming from left to right! Thinking aloud here I would have tried to make the dripping/splashing into the cement of the whole video. With dripping/splashing rising slowly to a crescendo. I would have moved that splashing/ around too. i.e. rotated the dripping so it drips down and up and comes right to left! I would have put in more splashing instrument shots, to compliment this.

Inside this frame work of external and internal splashing I would have put the girl boy thing! Building things up with a less is more approach. With more and more been shown. Then a a short preview of the disappearing. Then more appearing and then finally a reverse. i.e. only disappearing on touch. It is like to open a jar that is difficult to open it is often beneficial to twist it closed more tightly first before twisting it open!

I suspect that the people who made this got lost in their admittedly very cool effect. Just my 2.5 cents.

Will have to think about what to post next ;)

Wow that is really incredible. It is so much more powerful than another you tube video of animals being slaughtered in a bloody fashion on a conveyer belt. Very clear and powerful with out being too sentimental. One of the best things I have seen in a long time. Chapeau.

Is this a music video? A nature film?

This is made entirely from STILL images!
Yes, image bank archived photos.
Imagine the animation work that went into making them look like slow motion movies...

This artist is, how they say, blowing up right now, so there's big money behind her. Her deals with EMI & Virgin records are bolstered by her impressive sales. I mention all this as a lead in to this video which is purposely made to look barebones. Perhaps you could describe it as How To Make Your Big Budget Production Appear As A Low Budget Indie. Note the primary contrast of 2 main lighting configurations, the pacing contributing to the build, the crescendos in act 3 with the introduction of complete color washes. To me this is an excellent example of the simplest of concepts married with the perfection of execution.

Further exploration of simple concepts, here we shift towards complete zen minimalism.
You don't even need the artist, just a guy at his new MacPro with some title effects & a snowflake loop?
Still, some clever finishing touches with a few embellishments (a volumetric light effect & the pulse glowing flakes or stars on the beat). But for me, by the time we get to act 3, I could really use a couple more tricks to combat the redundancy....

What say you?
