This is the way its going to be, ever since the Veronica Mars film got part financing through Kickstarter.
The whole idea of Kickstarter was to allow people with no name to get minimal funding though crowd sourcing, I guess it was inevitable that already famous people (like Zach Braff or famous brands like Veronica Mars) would start using to get serious funding...

Eventually I could see agents demanding a piece of this emerging market. If they've built up a brand like Zack, only to see him go indie, their money grubbing paws get itchy.
At the same time, there're a new class of warriors building their own brands on Twitter & Youtube, some, if clever could parlay that into a feature film deal on Kickstarter. Though it's pretty hard to compete with the exposure one would get on umpteen seasons of Scrubs.
You gotta admit though, his Kickstarter video is hilarious.

Wow!!! 4k, steady cam rigs, etc. etc. I think this is a game changing moment, fantastic. Something we'll all look back on.
Does anyone know links to stats relating to video related projects (pre/production/post tools & software, and films etc.) on kick starter? Someone, who generally knows what he's talking about, told me that over all the amount of kick-starter projects (all areas) that get funded fail really quick or don't even get a real start after the initial funding.
Through previous experience relating to business planning I've thought this perhaps to relate to excitable funding for unprepared start ups. Maybe the pitch/product alone can sometimes be enough for investment without the preparation/organisation being considered?
Even so, initially it looks to me like we may have been doing well on there, and maybe we could go a lot further with it. It's kind of a new approach to the origins of the film making financing that became a power in its own.

Like all business, it's hit & miss. Zack has a proven track record, which for any venture is crucial. The media is all over the hugely funded success stories, though we haven't seen the end results promoted so heavily. You definitely need a good level headed team in place once the hype dissipates into heavy lifting.
But some real genius stories are coming out of this method (Pebble watch for instance).
The only film projects I've seen on kickstarter looked very amateur with awful writing & acting. Some gamers have done well but they were well established. Again, Zack's team are proven & poised to jump on this opportunity as the timing is perfect.
The rest of Hollywood will be watching, this more so than the Veronica Mars project I expect. If Zack's film flies, you'll see a lot of projects coming this way. Difficult to have his kind of clout & draw though. I'm waiting for one of the leading Twitter juggernauts to try something like this (either Gaga or Bieber). With upwards of 50 million followers, it could be a watershed.

I think it is great what Zack is doing. Like we need another Stereotyped film as much as we need another Mega Shopping Mall. It is nice to be offered a real choice from time to time. The way he sells his idea is also great. Like he is basically raising a big F**k you finger to his traditional backers and living what he preached at the end of Garden State and jumping into the abyss. And all with a smile. Respect.
