I was really hoping they would make it more visual. The FCPX timeline is just such a great way to edit, being able to see the frames makes it so easy to keep track of footage.

Their main new feature is that you can add looks in the program. No comment ;-) Better Media management. Never a bad thing! Import projects into projects. Wow easy on the Kool-Aid. And a new Audio Clip Mixer panel. Hell the latter would be nice in FCP X.

It is weird but after all those FCP X updates in the past 2 years hearing an announcement like this makes me wonder. Like what do Adobe actually do…

I remember sitting in the train going from Shanghai airport to the city. The train was doing some kind of ridiculous speed like 412 Km hr.

You do not actually get it. How fast you are going. Until that is that you see the cars on the Motorway crawling along behind you at 120 Km hr

Like just don´t look now! Because preset looks are well and good but they are not. Definitely not, cutting edge. And now I gone and commented about looks. Dammm.

We are going very fast in another direction in our FCP X train. Apple knows it and many of the people in here! I am obviously alluding to the bottomless pit known as Meta Data...

There color scheme in the timeline does remind me of FCPX.

I could make some very sarcastic comment about looks and the look of the timeline but I will pass this time.

Having seriously asked myself the question what do Adobe actually do I went and looked online and found out!

tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-anywhere/introd...-anywhere-for-video/

Apple? What is up? Can we have this inside FCP X? Only even better. Pretty please.

That looks like a kick ass product to me.

Yeah, this is in fact really cool. However, my grudge isn't with Adobe it is with the entire paradigm shift towards "Cloud based workflows".

I love batteries, laptops, iPads, and any mobile device for that matter that give me the ability to work anywhere. (with or without a connection)

Personally, I dont want to be dependent on anyone else's hardware, connection, bandwidth, availability, server updates, etc...

I will simply never give up my independence and ability to create completely on my own.

The other thing is this may be great for cutting costs and having someone in some third world country do the job for ya.....but sitting around a conference table and looking someone in the eyes can not be beaten.

I'm not an older guy that learned technology later in life, I was born in to it.(No offense) I grew up with an Apple and have had three plus computers continuously since the age of 5. I cant even count the number of computers I've had. So I wouldn't say my opinion is biased. I just really believe human interaction changes everything.

I'm not one to say that this doesn't have use in certain situations, but as a general shift. I dont prefer it.

Well I am an older guy then. I started with a Sinclair 81 when I was 10ish so you can do the maths :-)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX81

But yeah being dependent on a subscription for my software and then another subscription to collaborate with other people well that is scary.

It is like how do you want to get f**ked from behind or the front or hey why not do it both ways simultaneously!

But joking aside. I have worked in a video editing shop with 50ish editors and the whole collaborative thing was a nightmare. We had things like exported movies for clients turning up in the root folder of our Server!!! It is the other end of the spectrum!

Companies do of course outsource but often come back after disappointing results over seas. Playmobil being a famous case in point :-)

That workaround for not being able to open more than one project at a time, well, I dunno. That's just not up to professional features to me. It is not importing "projects into projects", it is importing parts of other projects into your current project. Not acceptable.

They only just now get (not the mixer) an audio meter that shows levels for different channels in clips? Only just now can joint through edits? Yep, way behind FCP 7 still. Baffles me why people leave 7, when it still works.

Looks? I have Resolve LITE for free and there are tons of presets online I can get my hands on that blow those looks away.

Audio mixer, joining through edits, only two things I would like to see in FCP X.

Tell me more about Playmobil. Very interesting especially since they are right around the corner from me.

To the Adobe anywhere. I was hopping Final Cut Pro would have something like this already. Still waiting... maybe after they get done with there second data complex?

They are promoting the mercury engine in the video above, but that shouldn't have nothing todo with the network side of the house. Right? I like to see real life demo and see the specs... what network for what resolution..

But Adobe anywhere could be a good reason to jump... if they didn't have there software cloud program!

With respect to Playmobil, the story I heard was that they did a lot of outsourcing to China. But they ended up getting so many complaints about deteriorating quality that they decided to go home. If my memory serves me correctly they were one of the first to outsource and one of the first to pull back.

Needing electricity to charge the battery for my laptop is one thing. Shit I can build a windmill and make my own electricity. But making an internet connection mandatory before I can work that is just too much 1984 for my liking. There is too much Shit involved in raising carrier pigeons.

I do not want to engage in Schadenfreude here but I think Adobe have dropped the ball. FCP X is charging ahead at full speed. This becomes very apparent at the very latest when the "Competition" bring out all their updates at once.

And then there is Avid. Like when the hell are some one like Blackmagic going to take them out of their misery and write that check! Imagine Avid with a huge cash injection how that would polarise the NLE industry…

The shark, the shark

But then that is another thread :silly:

For the price point of FCP X, I don't see a cloud based subscription being advantageous. How long would it take before you paid off $299? At $25/month, that's one year. You'd own it after one year, and then still have to pay the monthly fee.

For something as expensive as Adobe production suites, I can see it being more financially advantageous. But you're still dependent on ISPs and such.

I can see if you only use an app in bursts a subscription is cool. But if you use it every day, for years (over a decade in my case), I could pay for an app several times over with a subscription.

Just saying...

Cajun...you do have a point there...but just in essence of argument, Apple has surely been successful in creating fiends addicted to updates and Apple as a whole for that matter. I'd say the Apple mantra is largely based on the ecosystem as we know.... ;)

Personally, I've purchased way too many plugins that I didn't need, many that I needed. And I've already decided to pay for FCPX 11 when it comes out....

All NLE uses are addicted to updates. That is not unique to FCP X. We just get them faster and easier and cheaper.

hmm interesting but did you know that FCPX doesn't even have a Audio Mixer and how can you have more then one project open at the same time in FCPX...

It reminds me a little of the update from FCP 6 to 7. Once people start talking about if it is a significant update or not rather than how significant the update is… Well then you are on the defensive.

What is new in Premiere Pro 7

www.lafcpug.org/reviews/review_7new_features_PPCS7.html

What is new in Final Cut Pro 7 (!!!3 years ago!!!)

www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/whats_new_fcp_7_martin.html

I think the next FCP X update is going to be the most crucial one to date!

10.0.3, 10.0.6 and 10.0.9 Anyone seeing a pattern here???

As already mentioned I have my ear to the ground for what is going to happen to AVID. If they had money in their war chest there could well be a jolly good round of bloodletting in NLE world!

Personally whilst FCP X is far from perfect, I put Apple at least 5 years ahead of the competition as of now.
