Event insider Vincent Laforet, essentially the father of DSLR video has only teased such a game changer twice in 5 years. The first time it was for the industry changing Reverie cinema style movie shot on the Canon 5D MKII. Vincent was the first to do it, & now they're shooting 40 million dollar features like this.
He says something big is coming in the next few days.

One could guess with his history at Canon, it might be coming from them... the speculation & tension of anticipation is palpable.

But I digress...
Lot's of speculation in the comments over on Vincent's page (Gyro Stabilization, Focus, etc.).
Unfortunately, Laforet already nixed my hopeful by saying it's not a camera, but it IS a "piece of camera equipment."
When, oh when will we get the all in one perfect camera?
Still, whatever it is, should be exciting & the countdown is on...

My guess is that it is exactly a specific new accoutrement for videographers that will help them potentially evolve the quality of their work in an easier and faster manner, and carry a particularly exact type of new product wow factor. That is what I think it will be, specifically.

So when you read the article and watch the video this seems pretty impressive. Then you see that the price point is just as much or more than a steadicam and it's not impressive anymore. The movement in their demo video is slightly jerky and doesn't have that same floating feeling as a steadicam.
I don't see this as a game changer. If it was less than $3,000 then maybe, but when it's in the same price range as the steadicam then I don't see the point.
Edit: they are adding more footage shot with this thing, but they are charging $3 to view it?
"Paying it forward: ***** GIVE US 1 HOUR TO GET THIS VIDEO UP******
I also wanted to try something a bit different here. At first I thought we’d put additional content up for a small charge and throw a party for the crew or pay them a bonus – but I didn’t like the precedent the former option set. Therefore we’re also throwing up a downloadable "Pay Per View" version with the help of Vimeo - All proceeds from the sale of the video will go to a charity on behalf of the cast and crew. The Charity is called the "Lollipo Theater Network" ( lollipoptheater.org ) and brings the magic of movies currently in theathers, to children that are confined to hospitals nationwide due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
The downloadable video includes another never before seen shoot with the MōVI outdoors shot on the Panasonic GH3, along with that will be 3 full ungraded extended takes from MōVI shot with the Canon EOS 1DC in Canon C-Log, as well as a director and inventor’s commentary for the short. The Vimeo On Demand footage is available for download for $3. It goes to a good cause so if you’re interested click on the following Lollipop Theater Piece Link here."

- Absence of Quality is the essence of squareness.
Like all those devices that I have never heard of that camera geeks find sexy.
It is like a parallel universe. An iCam. :silly: Very curious

This video shows the actual unit, which I must say I prefer to SteadiCam because it's much lighter, smaller & not connected to you by a harness. Sure looks super stable too. But 3 grand? Some kid's going to post a DIY vid on youtube in a week, how to make this thing for 200 bucks.

Here's the inventor talking about his device with Vincent, accompanied by behind the scenes footage. While watching the original film I was particularly impressed by the thru the cab window sequence, here they show how that was achieved. While watching I was thinking a skateboard, & wasn't far off. The final veering off appears to go up onto a curb & across a sidewalk. Not until you see this behind the scenes footage do you see the secret of that effect, & what the perfect framing concealed.

Ehh... I was kinda hoping for something else, & at a groundbreaking price to really crack things wide open for young filmmakers.
It didn't change my game... how about you?

I can only say… Not so sure about the game changing thing!
A helicopter for 3,000€ now that would be a game changer
Thoroughly engaging exercise in Mise en scène. Bravo.

I would say RED and Black Magics Cinema Camera was more of a game changer.

In this video:

Following 2:20 he said "You separate the jobs of moving the camera and pointing the camera" and talks of a remote. If this framing can be controlled, not just focus/exposure etc. then I think it looks fantastic.

I would like to know, can I pop a RED Cam on it and how much is the real price or is usable right out of the box?

"The completely silent device weighs under 3.5 pounds bare and can be operated solo, or with the help of a second "gimbal" operator with a joystick to pull off some incredible moves."

'Game changing' will be the 40k$ solution:
a remote controlled gimbal at a steady-cam!
You then have a 'runner', plus a camera operator for framing, focus etc ....
Then it's a hell-of-a-replacement of dollies, jibs etc :woohoo:

Unless the game was - Best Mad Scientist Looking Contraption With Most Amount Of Loose Wires Hanging Off It.
What? I thought he was a shoe-in to win that award... apparently he lost to a guy with the exact same device, but it also had sparks coming off it.
Aww... so close.
