EDIT:Eyh! I posted this in off topic. Must have done something wrong. It supposed to go in the off topic section. Sorry!

I bought Reason 4.0 from Jet-customer. I got serial number, and now I´m trying to register to access the download area. But when trying to register, I insert my serial number in the license number box and then I got a message that it is a invalid license number. Why?

I bet that 4.0 is the same as 4. Reason 4 is only one I can find on the list.

The latest version of Reason is 6.5. But yes, "4" is the same as "4.0". You'll need to contact Propellerhead support for this. They'd have to figure this out for you.

Did that. Hope they answer.

Ben, you´re a composer, right?

I´ve made 25 second of a song, but when I compare it to Paul Wex´songs vimeo.com/51800249 (I know, he´s been making music since he was 15), mine sounds very cheap and light. And Wex´sounds pro and heavy.

I´ll try to upload when I´ve done some more. But am I missing something? How to I make my songs fuller?

I know it´s a difficult question to answer, and I´m very new at this. But I hope you have some small tip or techniques.

I'd have to hear one of your pieces to answer that. If you're serious about recording your own music, I highly recommend Joe Gilder's Home Studio Corner web site. Very informative. Most of the time musicians miss simple mixing basics.

I´ll try to upload some of my piece when I have the time. On the run for work.

Will also Joe Gilder!
Thanks!

First up, HAPPY MARDI GRAS DAY from southeast Louisiana and New Orleans, my home town!

Sounds just fine to me. I'd maybe pan the snare drum very slightly off to the left, as the high hat seems to be slightly off to the right. But that's just to be fancy and geeky.

As far as full, you don't have any real bass. Find a good bass sound that works with the rest of the piece, write a bass line for it that fits, that will help to fatten it up nicely.

Here's some tips.
When you do your final mix, mix in mono. When it sounds good like that, test it on various speakers, especially cheap ones. But a good variety. Then pan everything out into stereo. Cause if the mix is good in mono, it will work just fine in stereo. But if you mix in stereo, it may sound crappy in mono. It helps you really balance the instruments much better. Your mono mix will tell you if your levels are right.

Use EQ only when you are forced to, not just cause it is there.

Never pull the level of a track up because it is too far down under everything else. Pull other tracks down first, before raising a track's level. If you raise a level, you'll raise other levels, and before you know it, you're mix is so over saturated it becomes nothing but noise.

But what I hear sounds just great. Only thing it seriously needs is an appropriate bass line.

All right, thank you very much!

So I just need to replace the drum with bass drum, or do I need do find something in bass?

I´ll try to figure out the snare drum. But I don´t know if my technical know how is at the right place at the moment.

Great advice. I pulled a level. I´ll think about the next time.
No I´m just learning. When I make my movies, footages etc I will make music that´ll fit perfectly. Just need to learn the basic. How to compose, basic layers and stuff.

It boosted my confidence reading your post.

Do not replace anything. Add a bass instrument, that's all you need to do.

Listen to other pieces that you think are similar to yours, listen to how they're mixed, listen to the bass instruments. Then give yourself some time to think about it. You'll come up with something.

If you want to email me the song file (address in my profile here), I could see about coming up with an idea for a bass line to help you get started.

You have Reason?

I´m having trouble finding the correct bass. And I´m not sure how to add it to the song.

Also trying to find the piano instrument Paul Wex is using in the video I linked to.
Since the version I bought from Jet, probably is a cracked version I can´t register, and therefor I can´t download the piano refill.

Need to buy Reason 6. And the reason why I chose Reason is because a friend of my also just started composing, and he has had Reason a couple of months.

I can e-mail you the file.

Thanks a lot!

Did you get my email with the air-fil?
Take your time!
Don´t stress!

What instrument does Paul use here?
vimeo.com/31082448

I´m searching for the violin of some sort which steers the melody.
Can´t figure out what he´s using.
