Earlier we were talking about Ridley Scott getting his start with commercials. They're not beneath you as an artist. Of course his "high art" Apple campaign brought us the famous 1984 ad.

Usually I look forward to the American SuperBowl ads each year, as they're supposed to be the cream of the crop (& corp - my first appropriate typo).

Must confess, this time around I thought the majority lackluster. In previous years there have been some wonderfully creative concepts, not so much for me this time.

Last year they had these hilarious ones about insurance I think, where someone would walk in & completely misread a very bizarre situation. Like the two interns standing over a sleeping patient, trying to kill a fly in the hospital, with the electro heart resuscitation paddles, just as the visiting wife & daughter walk in.

How about you... any favorites.

A good friend of mine was good friends with Cy Enfield, he told hime he made more money from directing Marlboro ads than from directing Zulu.

Excellent point, Dave. There's an odd pseudo intellectual martyr complex among many creative types, decrying pious ethics & virulent disdain for sellouts. However, the starving artist syndrome carries very little weight in the real world beyond picking up the occasional goth chick at a gallery opening.
