Why I Prefer Vimeo Over YouTube was created by TrixTrax9000
Though I'm still not absolutely certain about Vimeo's handling of HD quality resolution, as I'm occasionally seeing banding & slight jitters in smooth pans, which may be a playback issue, I still prefer it to YouTube.
First & foremost YouTube is becoming increasingly obnoxious with all the ads. This definitely got worse after Google took over. I'm tired of clicking boxes, obtrusive interruptions & other annoyances. Also, it seems that whatever your subject matter, they will assign videos to appear after yours that negate it. Eg; Your video is a moving plea for saving the dolphins, as it ends, 10 video followups show why dolphins should be offed, complete with booty shaking bikini girls, etc. Google's found a new way to squeeze an extra penny out of every click, usually you have to wait about 5 seconds thru some horrible advert you don't want to see, before you can make it disappear & get to the thing you came for. God forbid the video you want is popular, because then that 5 second option disappears & you're forced to sit thru a full 30 second induction in banality. Oh, is it one of the clever award winning Super Bowl style ads? No, of course not, rather some infantile gibberish set to horrible noise for music, or feminine hygiene products. Really, YouTube?
Even other people's vids I see on YouTube have new inventive popup ad boxes, some with decoy closing regions that when clicked don't remove the box so you can watch what you want in peace, but rather take you away midstream to some other crap you don't want to see. Loathe that.
The only advantage I can see at this point, is the number of hits YouTube offers, so if that's your goal... stay.

I for the most part have to agree. Youtube has become a shooting gallery of videos. Google is just going with ad profits and popular culture. It's just that simple!

I think t's good to have the choice. If a video wants to be marketed/campaigned for mass viewing then YouTube is the way, but if that's not an issue then Vimeo is great.
I just wish both would get it right and stop making colour adjustments to uploads. You'd think that with online video having settled they could at least let uploaded video's that fit their transcoding requirements not be re-transcoded.
