DVD Studio Pro HD trouble

DVD Studio Pro HD trouble was created by AndyKamo
Hello, I recently created a slideshow using FCPX. After completing the project I rendered and exported it out as a 1280x720 file. I then toke that file and dropped it onto Compressor and applied the default Dolby Digital and MPEG-2 formats provided by Compressor under the "Disc Burning" tab. After that was done I toke the compressed files and dragged them onto DVD SP. I first however went into the DVD SP preferences, changed DVD Standard into HD DVD under the Project Tab, then in General tab I changed the Resolution to 1280x720p 16:9 Display. After that I builded the DVD and Formatted it. But, when the burning was done and I tried testing it on my DVD Player it would say
-This disc cannot be played.
-Please check disc.
Can anyone help me out?

HD DVD was a different standard. HD disks are not compatible with standard DVD players.

Doesn't matter. A DVD player doesn't read HD format. It should play with your Mac's built in DVD player though.
There's a Kenstone article about burning HD to DVD

The physical media can be DVD-R. But the data being written to it is not in the normal SD video format, but in the HD-DVD format. Like formatting a hard drive for Mac or Windows. It is still a hard drive, just different formats.
DVDSP supported HD-DVD when it was a contender (and the best image quality on the market at the time), but HD-DVD has become extinct since. The new HD format is Blu-Ray. You need to get Blu-Ray blank discs, a Blu-Ray burner, and something that can author Blu-Ray such as the bare bones option in FCP X, a tad more control with Toast 11 Pro, or full support with Adobe Encore.

Actually, DVDSP will in fact accept HD video. How else was it making HD-DVD? I did a bunch of those way back when. Larry is wrong that DVDSP will not accept HD video, because it does in deed accept them to create HD-DVD discs. He is correct in that "Final Cut Studio" apps won't do Blu-Ray video. Well, even that's not correct. Even in FCP 7 we has a bare bones Blu-Ray option in the Share menu. So Larry in technically half correct.
