All,

Not very scientific and as noted it really needed to be compared to an SSD as well.
Worth a watch to see the speed bump although for long video clips we wonder what the results would be.

Well, everything on a fusion drive goes to the SSD first, then offloaded to the HDD when it is deemed not needed that often. What if some REDCODE RAW files you loaded up two weeks ago are now considered not needed very often, placed on the HDD, and then you start to edit your project with them? How long will the Fusion take to copy them all over to the SSD so you can start to get the real speed increase? Remember, these copies are background processes regulated to not take away overall system performance. So you'd have HDD performance for a long while, until everything got copied over, then you'd get the SSD performance. But during the coping, would overall performance suffer?

Agreed Ben, all this test seems to be doing is comparing a 5400rpm HDD with an SSD. It's Fusion management that needs tested. I've got a feeling it's not going to be great for video work.

IIRC, they didn't mention at all when they presented the fusion drive. Only standard applications like word processing etc.

This seems similar to the Seagate Momentus Hybrid drive. Does anyone know the difference, if any?

That link does not go to a hybrid drive, just a SATA drive.
